Hugh_Hoy
With "only" a BA/BS, you are at a disadvantage in today's world unless you are self-employed. Even some states require college level courses for certain types of licenses. They don't require a degree, but require the courses. As noted above, an MA/MS is the equivalent of a BA/BS 30 years ago. I'd highly recommend classroom credits versus on-line, with the exception of a very few courses. I think, aside from the "fun" I had in college, the most significant part of my education was learning how to interact with a lot of people from different backgrounds/experiences...socialization at a level above adolescence. In addition to a college degree (and this is a bit off-topic), at least a 2-year stint in a branch of the military would make a person more "marketable" (I would think). Indicates not merely service to their country, but being accustomed to following directives. I don't think we have too many Boy Scouts on this board. 5555555555 We're probably more accustomed to escorting bargirls down a walk of shame, rather than an old lady cross a busy street. But one who has accomplished getting to the rank of Eagle Scout demonstrates a lot of qualities that are desireable in the work place. (No...I was never an Eagle Scout. :content: ) HH
Flashermac
I have a friend who got an MBA on line. He said he only did so because everyone insisted he had to have one and he didn't want to take the time to study full time (married and a father). He thought the entire degree was rather mickey mouse, just common sense more or less.

Hugh_Hoy
One thing about banging old broads: it's been so long since they had any, you can bareback them and have no worries. HH

unit731
Back to college/university. Bill Gates went to Harvard. Dropped out. It was Steve Balmer - with a business degree - that provided most of the business knowledge of that rising corporation. Woody Allen - I think - stated that 90% of life is just showing up. The point is - anyone - or just about anyone can get a college degree. You just have to show up. Obviously, a tad bid of reading is involved. I don't go for the online stuff either. Some, granted, it is a necessity. But for the rest - get off your butt and show up. Money: Well, my university degree was paid for by the state - as a veteran. All veterans have tuition waived - in my state/province. Same with Master's Degree. No pay there either. Scholarships/funds/money. It's out there. Go find it. Some colleges offer work/scholarship. I found the Master's Degree easier than undergraduate. Now granted, a degree, any degree - does not make a dumb person smart. I'm proof of that! But for most, it does open horizons and unlock doors. Some parents, sadly, place zero emphasis on college/university upon their offspring. I see, here in farangland, too many young people with dead end jobs - they will never go anywhere - and never go more than one week ahead of last weeks paycheck. Yes, a college/university degree is necessary for all but a few. And two degrees are really necessary for the 21st century. Some, though, should join the military and learn a trade - for free. But learn a trade. Others - that don't join the military to learn a trade nor attend/graduate college/university - well - they can sell crack on the streets and do pretty good. Then 10 - 20 years in the slammer with free room and board.
Steve
I can certainly appreciate attending a university for a BS or BA when you're 18 for the socialization part of it. However, would the same hold true for a Master's? Wouldn't an online degree be okay as long as its marketable?
shygye
Well, for an MBA you would miss out on the networking which is crucial after graduation. For other fields, you wouldn't have the close collaboration with your advisor and other students.
