buffalo_bill
Sir , you have actually hit what must be the largest unsolved problem in the whole Far East . Do not take this matter easy . There is a specialised forum called Flyertalk where thousands of the finest and elegant travellers from all over this world must have spent days of their life to proceed in heatet discussions if , and now listen what comes : if the 50 service charge for an " official " airport taxi can be saved and how . The procedure is this one : After arrival you walk to the taxi queue by following signposts that say " Taxi" . Remember this . Once you are there you are met by a gentleman who discusses your immediate travel requirements and you tell him " Nana Hotel " . He will then fill out a government supported document , hand it to a driver and said driver will accompany you to his car , if you are lucky he will even deal with your luggage . The final bill should look like this : 50 Bht Airport fee 70 Bht expressway 200 ? Bht meter We are now looking at already 320 Bht total and things run out of control . We need an alternative and it is here : You take all your luggage and walk up to departures level . Proceed to the taxi arrivals and try to catch an empty car that did just offload his passengers . By this sharp move you do indeed save 50 Baht airport charges . Disregard uniformed individuals of Thai origin who try to tell you all is illegal , they don'tknow waht they are doing . BuBi , respectfully
khunsanuk
Hi, "By this sharp move you do indeed save 50 Baht airport charges ." Not necessarily. Dropped off my cousin a few weeks back and on the way back took at cab from the departures. First guy running up to me wanted 50 Baht on top of meter, I declined. Another walked over offering meter + 30. Took that one as it was late and I wanted to go home and sleep. What he told me was that the guards are allowing them to wait for a passenger, but only after paying them 30 Baht. True or not, I do not know, but wouldn't surprise me at all. Anyway, if you have any more luggage than you can comfortably carry it certainly isn't worth the hassle to walk to departures when arriving. Sanuk! buffalo_bill
Sir , I would urgently recommend to publish this on Flyertalk preferably by opening a new thread . It will shatter the arriving community of mainly successful businessmen posting on that forum . Most of them , according to their profiles ,are multiple members in exclusive hotel premium programs , fly only First and a saving of another 20 Baht will be no small news to them . Coss
I've thought that the trek to the official taxi kiosk and to the departures area are almost the same in distance and inconvenience. Usually the official one, has never been stress free for me. Stand in queue, have some tent wearing persons queue jump, have voucher girl frown at me, have to walk 100 metres to taxi, all means more stress. I have used both, but the departures one is less hassle. Walk to road, get in taxi, go to Suk, very easy. The saving of baht is unimportant it's the ease that's the thing. As the actress said to the bishop. Coss
Alfmaz
So your telling me When I arrive at 1130 pm I can go through customs pass the Thai's trying to sell me a limousine service out the sliding doors and there is a Taxi rank I can cue at for Bangkok, just like the old airport if this is the case I'm happy
Coss
My experience is a walk about half the airport away from where I exit customs. Which after a 12 hour flight is unwelcome.

A very pleasant fellow took me to Sukhumvit by the most direct route for just under 300 baht. No long walk, no Expressway, no hassle.
