Understandng a people via its porn?

I had an interesting discussion with a person at a bar who told me about a rejected master's thesis he wanted to do for a sociolgy master's degree.

His theory was that you can see the true nature of a people via its porn. He gave me a few examples. He said if you look at German and Japanese porn, there is a big emphasis on humiliation, power, etc. German bondage films and such. Japnese bukake movies, submitting the women to all kinds of humiliating things, etc. He ties it to the brutality both nations did in WW2 as part of its natinoal psyche.

 

He also said America's porn reflects its diversity as there are a ton of niches. He says it shows the dichotomy in Americans to be brutal and arrogant but also giving.

 

He also looked at mid east porn and in some of it, all amateur as they don't allow official porn in many countries to be extremely conserative as the women sometimes still wear head covering in private films they didn't expect anyone but their lovers and themselves to see. There was no imagination, rarely anything other than vaginal and oral sex. Some anal but usually on someone not from that country or ethnicity.

 

He told me that black porn was uncomplicated, down to earth and having fun was a major part of the porn. Same with a lot of latin, especially Brazilian porn.

 

I have very close female friends and they would tell me they were upset about finding out their boyfriends or husbands had porn hidden away. I would tell them not to be upset. It was very normal. They knew I had a pretty nice size collection (and they used to borrow a fair amount of it in the old days..haha) and that its not 'cheating'. I told them the thing to worry about wasn't if their man had porn but what KIND of porn he had. Was there an emphasis on very, very young girls. Was there a lot of bondage, S&M, etc. Not that its wrong but it would give a clue to what makes him tick. Nothing wrong with it but if I were a girl I would be a bit worried if I saw a lot of gay or she-male porn in a guy's porn collection. To each his own, I'm not saying its wrong but my advise to my female friends was that he may either have fantasies or had or wants such expeiriences. What would you surmise if you saw my porn collection? Hmmmm..CS likes petite, young girls who swallow and take it up the ass from black guys...haha...especially well hung black guys (unfortunately, its not art imitating life ) Lots of Asian girls obviously, diverse girls, latin, white, black, brazilian girls have a place.

 

So, two questions. Is this guy right about nations and ethnic group interst in porn and 2) does your porn reflect you?

I love porn! All porn really, but mostly porn that degrades women...of course I have issues but so what? this is what I like! Forget all the candy ass bullshit we have been fed, nature is at work here, and men are supposed to rule, be on top I could give a rats ass about political correctness and such. But then you all knew that.

 

The censorship of this guys thesis is yet another attempt to deny the truth of life, and that is, men love sex/pussy etc, and women think they should have control over that. Fuck it all...I like what I like and will never apologize for it.

I agree. For example, Japanese porn is very, very diverse--more so than American porn. To me it's much more creative. I really love the movies they have where they take a big truck with mirrored walls so that you can see out from the truck but people outside can't see in, and then pick up cute girls on the street and convince them to do naughty stuff.

 

As to personal taste in porn reflecting who you are as a person--of course that's true to a large extent, but it's more complicated than that. I know some people who are turned on by S&M but are very nice people, so go figure.

PHD Thesis.

 

Much depends on the actual school/university.

 

Have your friend/mate/acquaintence go to another school/university.

 

All college/university - are about money. Learning comes 2nd.

 

Find another school. If, of course, he is serious.

 

Would be a good socialogical dissertation. All are biased - depending on what information, sources, and data one uses.

Not a friend. I was involved in a bar convo and he added his two cents and the topics went off on numerous tangents (like on here..haha).

 

We were cracking up because the thesis not only meant that he had to watch tons of porn, the woman overseeing him had to see some of it as well and we were all cracking up on the mental vision of sitting in some woman's office trying to watch a Japanese bukake clip with an analytical viewpoint. What if he got a hard on or something. The conversation got very childish.

 

There were some other interesting aspects though as he had a section on porn in history such as the Greeks, Romans and what it meant.

 

We still came back to him watching tons of porn and having to review some of it with others in his class as well as his PHD professor.
