Flashermac
I knew a fellow whose 90 year home was reduced to kindling by a tornado. Did the feds help him rebuild? Nope. Hopefully he had insurance.

Flashermac
There was a man in the US who got a huge handout because he lost his wife when the Twin Towers went down. Problem was he'd been separated from his wife for several years and she had been nowhere near NYC on 11 September. She saw his name and read about her death on a list of beneficiaries. Since she hated the guy's guts, she screamed to the police. Oops ... the grieving husband got caught in his fraud. What a shame.
Nervous God
Corinthian - was electricity private owned, if people have to rebuild their own homes, should private companies responsible for public (irony alert) infrastructure also have to re-build at their own expense? All Hospitals? Including private ones? The government did that?
Khun_Kong
Back to New Orleans. Is it the responsibility of the government (state/federal) to rebuild people's private homes or business? Yes. In any natural disaster that IS the role of government. Where in the Constitution does it say that? Specialist
Yeah' date=' like I should have to pay to rebuild Michael Jackson's lavish estate after an earthquake? Come on man ! Only thing Gov should be responsible for repairing/replacing is public infrastructure. HH[/quote'] Exactly. In NO. The Government had electricity back on, all hospitals back working in a matter of days. The Government was rescuing people off roof tops in a matter of hours. In 5 days, everyone that was stupid enough not to listen to the governments warning two days before was safe, fed, and bedded down. That is the role of government. And it worked flawlessly when compared to the work of other governments else were. Take Thailand for example when the wave hit. New Zealand is going in the same direction. (Though it may need some help.) It is worth mentioning something here. When the (at that time) latest earthquake hit Qom, in Iran, the Muslims in Iran and elsewhere were screaming bloody murder because the US wasn't doing ENOUGH, fast enough, to dig them out from under it. When the wave hit Thailand, the US was the first in the world to offer assistance. When Katrina subsequently hit New Orleans, while the Muslims were creaming themselves in their joy over Allah's punishment of the Great Satan, Thailand was the first in the world to offer the US any and all assistance they could give. (As I understand, the US reply was along the lines of "Thank you. We appreciate the offer. We've got this covered, and you've got your hands full as it is.")
