The server has to store the content in question, for future use by all participants, at least until the hypothetical expiration date (as one guy suggested). I see a little too much opportunity for the posting of material that could cause *REAL* problems for the board's owners, and possibly lead to its sudden demise. This would be bad for all of us. Just one question would the thread be restricted to only the 2 or 3 involved? I could see this becoming a problem as everyone likes to share their opinion and I could see a barrage of 'side threads' being created as a means of outsiders supporting one or the other in the original thread.
