Coss
Thailand’s Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin has been removed from office after a court ruled he had violated the constitution, in a shock decision that plunges the kingdom into further political uncertainty. The verdict comes a week after the same court dissolved the country’s popular progressive Move Forward Party, which won the most seats in last year’s election, and banned its leaders from politics for 10 years. The Constitutional Court in Bangkok ruled Wednesday that Srettha, a real estate tycoon and relative political newcomer, had breached ethics rules by appointing a lawyer who had served prison time to the Cabinet... https://edition.cnn.com/2024/08/14/asia/thailand-prime-minister-srettha-dismissed-intl-hnk/index.html

Mekong
Thailand's parliament has picked Paetongtarn Shinawatra, the daughter of billionaire tycoon and former leader Thaksin, as prime minister. At 37, she will be the country's youngest PM and the second woman in the post, after her aunt Yingluck. Her selection comes just two days after former PM Srettha Thavisin was dismissed by a constitutional court. Both are from the Pheu Thai Party, which came second at the 2023 election but formed a ruling coalition. Link
buffalo_bill
Gentlemen, I am confused by reading that Thaksin´s daughter seems to have been chosen as the new Prime Minister. So WTF ???? In my book Thaksin and family are in opposition to the ruling forces and now one of their offsprings rules the country, well somehow. Please enlighten me about the hidden secrets coming with this deal.
Coss
>>In my book Thaksin and family are in opposition to the ruling forces and now one of their offsprings rules the country, well somehow.<< Apparently she and her party were in coalition with the bloke that just got ousted, so they all still have enough numbers to govern and put her at the top. Seemingly democratic actions. As someone earlier and wiser than me said, "must be time for a coup".

No, Sreetha was Pheu Thai also, the Party which stabbed Move Forward in the back and formed a coalition with the very dinosaurs they pledged to oust. You see, when Pheu Thai came to power August 2023 Thaksin was technically still in prison, even thought living a life of luxury in a z5 Star Hospital if even there at all so Sreetha was installed as a stop gap. Thaksin was released of bail Feb 2024. In March 2024 it was reported that Sreetha, at Pheu Thai’s request had promoted Pichit Chuenban to the cabinet. This was against the constitution as Pichit had previously served a 6 month prison sentence. Now the good bit, the reason why Pichit had served time in Prison is because he was the lawyer Ho tried to bribe judges with the Money in the Lunch Box case during Thaksin 2008 land deal court case. So far the chain of events are May 23 Pheu Thai lose Election Aug 23 PT stab Move Forward in the back Aug 23 PT get Sreetha past the senate as PM Feb 24 Thaksin released from “Custody” March 24 Sreetha told to Promote Pichit March 24 Sreetha reported for promoting ex con to cabinet Aug 24 Senate remove Sreetha Aug 24 Paetongtarn Shinawatra elected as PM 3 Days later, Yesterday Thaksin gets Royal Pardon Yesterday Paetongtarn Shinawatra said on live TV she will be taking advice fro her father. So all along, as many observers called, it has been a Power Play to get Thaksin back into power. Unfortunately for Thaksin, but good for the country, more and more people are realisimg how he has been playing them and a lot of his support has evaporated. Stay tuned for the next installment. PS I sent a script to NBC for a political show similar to West Wing, they replied to me rejecting thr script saying it was too far fetched for real life, no one would believe it
