Mekong
Ten kindergarten students tragically lost their lives, and many others were injured, after a fire broke out on a coach during a school field trip outside Zeer Rangsit mall on Vibhavadi Rangsit Road in Pathum Thani province, near Bangkok. The blaze, which erupted on the coach at around 12.20pm today, October 1, was reported by the Facebook page Fire & Rescue Thailand. The ill-fated bus was carrying enthusiastic students from Wat Khao Phraya Sangkharam School in the central province of Uthai Thani, aged between four and five years old. The group was en route to a highly anticipated field trip when disaster struck. Of the 42 teachers and pupils on board, only 19 managed to escape the inferno in time. Firefighters from the Hongskul Khlong Luang 21 Rescue Foundation swiftly closed the road and battled the fierce flames. Although the blaze has now been brought under control, rescuers have yet to inspect the interior of the bus for safety reasons. Full Story For certain German readers I would like to point out that this was a regular coach and not a luxury coach since I realise basic English is difficult for him to comprehend. I would also wish to point out that Wat Khao Phraya Sangkharam School is a regular school and that Hongskul Khlong Luang 21 Rescue Foundation is a regular rescue foundation

Coss
I think it's a cultural norm. Whilst we in the West consider that lawyers and law will get involved in accidents, so we should remain at the scene, to get info to aid such, the SEA folk are new to this. It's often said that Lao folk are only one generation from the Jungle. This is said not to denigrate the Lao, but as an explanation, of why they may not know, about some aspect of the modern Western World that we take for granted, like the inevitability of taxes. IMHO (married to Thai 20 yrs , family in Surin), the Thai in this regard, are also only a generation or two from the Jungle. And there is also the immediate desire, for self preservation, should a mob with farm implements, start to form.

They say a similar thing about the Highlanders in PNG and it is to denigrate them. Knew one guy working on a Australian Government project up there who believed they need another 1000 years in the trees. Convinced they weren't ready to walk the land. Was at a dinner one night and this guy was talking about the highlight of most men's life is the birth of their first child. While we all stopped and consider that he followed it up with "I guess none of them have ever run over a Highlander in their Landcruiser. Lot's of rules as an expat you were taught if driving up there. Places never to go to at certain times of the day. No go zones at night an never allow yourself to travel between two other vehicles heading in the same direction as you. I remember just before i arrived they removed all the traffic lights as a safety precaution. Touch wood I never had any dramas however a friend got ambushed one night and had his armed slashed with a machete.
