Why do TG become BG's?

Even if Fly is right (and you are right, he hasn't provided a source), aren't the murderous regimes that existed in China and Vietnam an awfully high price to pay for eliminating prostitution?

Millions are estimated to have died during the "Great Leap Forward" (source: BBC Special a few months back and in any event no one really disputes this anymore). If Stalinist Russia, Mao's China and Ho Chi Minh's Vietnam are going to used as examples, why not throw Hitler's Germany into the mix? They're basically moral equivalents.

And in my view, a view which many on this board presumably share (else they wouldn't be here), prostitution is not a moral evil. It may have social costs, but if it is between two consenting adults, it is their own damn business. If Fly is right, it may be an argument in favor of the sex industry - it doesn't thrive well in murderous dictatorships and hence is a healthy sign of an open society!

yes, millions have died during the great leap forward, but different to stalin's gulag they were not intentionally murdered in prison camps.

if you look at the history of the great leap forward you can clearly see how and why those millions have died - misplanning and misinformation from the caders towards the central commitee brought widespread famine into the country in its attempt to accelarate industrialisation.

the facts of the famine were known too late because of too positive numbers given to the cental commitee.

secondly, at the time of china's revolution simply was no feasable alternative to the communists existing, unless you count the kuomintang which basically degenerated to fiefdoms of loosely allied warlords.

all historical accounts show that the main reasons mao won the revolution was his superior military tactics and the support of the population. he had almost no outside support, even the russians did not support him in any way.

it does not excuse the mistakes mao made after the victory, but his achievements were huge too. within a few years he changed a completely destroyed country into a industrialised nation.

history, not ideology!

garyh12>Having said all this, I know that I am an easy target for people on this thread (stupid farang with Thai prostitute). But I cannot believe (or do not want to believe) that all these types of relationships will not work.

Gary, relationship like yours always work. What does she have to do to make it not work?

Perhaps, refuse receiving the money you send.

Hats off to her for being so honest with you about other supporters.

No ... To make it not work, she needs to start seeing her old BF's again. She does not have customers/BF's in Bangkok. The other BF's are all overseas (Europe/USA) and come to Bangkok very infrequently. She hasn't seen any of them in about 4 months.

Actually, the other guys don't send any money. They just want to pay for services rendered.
