Are things getting back to normal in Panthip?

Great job, Peter! This might be another candidate for locking the thread at the top - although I am sure the Administrator would never, no never advocate buying pirated goods.

In Beijing, there are plenty of places to get the goods. One good one is Silk Alley which is very close to the American Embassy. Guys will approach you and either have the stuff on them or take you to their shop. You can expect to pay less than $1.00 US each and there are quantity discounts available.

Many shops in Vietnam. It is best to ask a Vietnamese friend as they know the places AND can get you Vietnamese prices. If you have no Vietnamese friends, just hit the touristy Hang Gai Street (near Hoan Kiem Lake) and you will be lead to a shop which has the stuff in the back room. Again, usually less than $1.00. Porno is dodgy though as the cops will look the other way on pirated goods, but get antsy with the porno.

Oh, I even know a place in Islamabad where you can get the pirated stuff. But, who the hell would want to go there??? :neener:

Thanks Peter, you have great idea started her. I'm sure KS will move on it.

Yeah Office is everywhere. What I'm looking for are high end publishing programs to replace the ones I have that won't run on XP and there are not upgrades for. Corel Ventura or Pagemaker or Qwark. Damn things a grand a piece here and we ain't sold anywhere near that amount of books yet. So cheaper software or MUCH bigger sales, please.

Thanks again :bow::applause:

I never had a problem, never had my bags open as I recall. I would just burry them in among some books or something, and if found just say you thought they were leagel copies as they are/will be packaged with a photocopy of the original packaging. But really, don't even worry. As for shipping, bad idea, as you have to describe the material on the disk for customs...saying software could tip someone off...

Hi Peter,

Panrep in Chinatown not so far from the Rachawong Pier has a good selection of games and DVDs as well. X-box, PSX and Gameboy. Didnt notice if they also had software as I was not looking for that.

It is located below a bridge and can be a bit hard to locate but mentioning the name Panrep will get you there.

They are very discreet about the pirated stuff and you will have to ask for a list. Nothing pirated on display here.

Cheers

Is this the area known as Saphan Lek (Iron Bridge)? If so, I have been there and the PSX game prices were incredible. I didn't see any PC stuff though. But, if we are talking the same place, you definitely have to get there by noon at the latest or you just cannot navigate those narrow aisle.

Hi Sarisin

That is the one indeed. Yes, their prices were very competitive. I bought xbox games at 140, they were 200 bht at MBK and very hard to find there. Besides the selection was rather impressive. Gameboy games were very reasonably priced as well.

The aisles are very narrow indeed, but I didnt really have a problem although I arrived in the late afternoon.

Coming to think of it I could have gotten the name wrong. I just heard it once pronounced like what to me sounded like "Panrep", but it could have been (Sa) Phan Lek, where they omitted the SA part.

However, I have on other occasions referred to "Panrep" with some thai friends in bkk and they were very well aware of what I was talking about it.

Cheers

I think sometimes these DVD/VCD stands are here today gone tomorrow. I have not been to Chatuchak recently, but that was my experience in the past.

I was in On Nut yesterday. Outside of the Lotus Tesco they had a DVD/VCD stand. Very good prices (DVD - 120/ VCD - 80), but the selection was not that great. Also, the copy of 'The Rundown" I got was not that good in quality.

They even gave me those DVD boxes which I promptly gave back. Does anyone really keep those things now?

As a side note, I am moving this week and I must have at least 1,000 jewel boxes and DVD cases. I am throwing them all out. :: I keep the software, VCDs, DVDs, etc. in binders now.
