Is the feel of the board changing?

Seems to me there is room for both the whoremonger and the testosterone depleted old timer on the same board. ;)

I myself like to play both roles as I think many of the guys here do...

Chanchao,

Few posts? Of course not, try no posts - Stick's web site does not have a discussion or bulletin board function. Everything on the site is put there by Stick himself. (Which is not the same thing as saying that he wrote it himself.)

Speaking of traffic, your site gets plenty of traffic, but few posts. :-Þ

Three comments: Firstly, I don't really think it necessary to divide up our "sandbox" so that newbies have a "protected" area in which to play. There are certain board members who, for unknown reasons, seem to relish jumping on other posters or criticising posts. Maybe merely "chest pounding" know-it-all exercises...maybe just a continuation of a "playground bully" mentality. Probably most here have certain individuals in mind. I think if enough posters throw sand in the face of some poster jumping on a "newbie", they might find it an unpleasant experience and decist. If not, mod/administrator intervention can always be exercised.

Secondly, putting "trip reports" under nightlife doesn't seem to address those "trips" that are made to other than a nightlife venue; ie, a trip to a national park; zoo, museum, Kanchanaburi, etc. Not sure how to handle this. Many trip reports, like somebody said, seem to be little other than high school "locker room" chat...although some are quite informative and entertaining.

Thirdly, how about a joke section?

Overall, I really enjoy the board here and find an interesting group of diverse and knowledgable posters. Even a couple of posters of whom I'm not particularly fond have made me think a little bit differently about some things...or at least, reconsider my thinking somewhat. I'm quite satisfied with the board and what is offered as it is.

Might as well take the time to thank you, the mods and the posters for their time and interest in making this board what it is. Thanks all.

Personally I still find this board to be the most informative about nightlife on and around Sukhumvit. Patpong is rarely mentioned but that probably just reflects the fact that many old timers do not frequent it very often. In terms of names, you obviously have a strong connection with NEP which may help and may hinder you at the same time with different audiences. Also Girl and travel relted stuff is very well answered here - better than anywhere else, but visa, finance etc is still a way off Thaivisa.com - perhaps you should compare yourself what else is out there and what sectors you need to focus on.

As an aside, I also read Thaivisa often and I personally feel that their moderators are on the whole extremely condescending wheras I have never reached that opinion with Nanaplaza.com - to me the moderating is well balanced.

Ultimately, you also need to be asking this question of your advertisers and perhaps doing some work on understanding the profiles of your readers/posters more effectively. To my mind you have a huge clientbase of users of hotels, but no adverts or special offers for NP.com members or posters - I am not talking about just a specific link to a hotel booking engine but something far more targeted. i.e get some "preferred" hotels in place with information etc and then details of how to book, prices etc. Certainly many farang hotel owners in Pattaya would be open to this idea if its put across in the right way - and no this is not always about cheapest price but ideal combination of services and facilities for single guys or small groups on holiday.

I for one am staying at a hotel in Pattaya at the moment as my house has been sold. Its run by a Scotsman, rooms (60 I think) are great, hostess bar downstairs, little bit out of the way, so no noise at 2.00am (20baht motorbike from walking street), nice pool - very welcoming atmosphere and totally suited to sanukers. NO stories of overcharging, bill padding, joiner fee's etc and a reasonable 800 baht a night. Might not suit everyone but have a go at getting say 5 hotels in each city - info, rates etc and joint promotions. This hotel has got loads of info, but nothing whatsoever on nanaplaza.com - shared benefit in getting your name better known and also his (there) hotels get better known. Not even critical to do it on a payment basis initially. If it works look at charging once you have a success story - they probably would not want to lose the revenue if it is successfull. For example, I would never imagine stopping of at Cathouse, but I have done so, merely because I read their banner and also the posts made.

One thing that has made Thaivisa successfull is that they have a lot of information pages, as well as forums - perhaps making this more readily avilable/easier to access would be advantageous - also gives more scope for people to post things. perhaps creating a section showing airlines and requesting recent user feedback would be good also same with the hotels - list as many as you can think off in the sanuking areas and let people post their comments and opinions. Anybody wanting a hotel can then review and make their decision from that the comments.

One thing though that has p****d me off recently is that now the NP site is generating pop-ups whenever I open it, which never happended before. Not sure if this is linked to NP.com but does not happen on other sites (and no I dont look at porno sites, its just NP.com). Virusguard says I am all clear of any pop ups but who knows...

Hope this is helpfull, but overall I think your doing a great job.

Cheers

Maybe i am missing something but i thought that NIGHTLIFE was a forum into itself already.

In what way would it be now separated from other topics?

Which, if it happens, would be a mistake.

Hi P127,

Simply put, I would prefer to distance myself from *some* of the members who post in Nightlife, Regional Sanuk and Trip Reports. You know my feelings on this, and I know that my (admittedly hypocritical) stance hasn't won me too many new friends. I can live with that.

KS, is it possible to separate 'Regional Sanuk' from 'Regional Sex Tourism' ? I havent joined the Mormons, but neither have I joined the ranks of those who want to label every working girl a 'whore' or see every developing country as an opportunity to get my rocks off. End of sermon.

Cheers,

Artie

Hi,

"Secondly, putting "trip reports" under nightlife doesn't seem to address those "trips" that are made to other than a nightlife venue; ie, a trip to a national park; zoo, museum, Kanchanaburi, etc."

I think these could just be posted in the Stories forum, although I guess it isn't that clear from its description. Will change that.

Hi,

"To my mind you have a huge clientbase of users of hotels, but no adverts or special offers for NP.com members or posters"

Fully agree, but without a sales / marketing person (which we are *still* looking for btw) I have no idea how to accomplish this.

"One thing that has made Thaivisa successfull is that they have a lot of information pages, as well as forums - perhaps making this more readily avilable/easier to access would be advantageous"

We have plenty of info pages as well, but most of them are in the memberarea. Obviously making them available for free will seriously hurt my income from the site.

"Anybody wanting a hotel can then review and make their decision from that the comments."

One of the new features we are looking at is a review system that would be integrated with the message board. It would serve this purpose.

"One thing though that has p****d me off recently is that now the NP site is generating pop-ups whenever I open it, which never happended before."

That is news to me, because as far as I know we do not run any popups (I despise them myself!). Are you sure it is NP.com that generates them and not some spyware/adware that is installed on your machine (it was the case for Peter1964).
