liquidflux
Are you sure they weren't calling you "farang ba?" I've gotten that one quite a few times myself, cant imagine why
samak
ba has usually a negative meaning and is also considered rude. more used for mad than crazy. you would have to be very familiar with the person to use it in a not serious/joking context. more soft words for "crazy" are bababobo and ting tong

gummigut
My thai friends (middle class and upper middle class as well) use "ba" (low short I think) to mean let's go. Usually meaning, "let's go already", or "it's time to go, I'm waiting". I would sit in the movie theatre watching the credits at the end of the movie and I'd get a nudge and a "ba". I have yet to get a girl to sit through the entire credits if it didn't have funny stuff going on as well. But I also don't go to the movies much. From memory, I can't recall a guy using "ba" in that way. <<burp>>

khunsanuk
Hi, "these are 2 different words with very different pronunciation " Agree. The 'crazy' one is with a 'real' 'b' sound and a long 'a', kinda like 'baa'. The 'go' one on the other hand has a short 'a' sound and starts with a kind of cross between a 'p' and a 'b', more like 'bpah'. Gummi, if you're around tonight all let you hear the difference Sanuk!
