buffalo_bill
THis is the only 'cultural ' place which I have ever visited twice in 27 years of travelling through Asia . Except Siamese Twins Bar Soi 23 where I have been 16 times . BuBi
Old Hippie
Take the BTS to the MBK/National Stadium Stop, when you come down the stairs from the train, into the BTS concourse, look for the sign telling you which exit to take., a short walk from there...go passed the tire place, and see the sign on the pole, make a right, walk to the end of the street, and make a left into the parking lot. Tour in many languages runs around 200bht. Looks like this...
The_Munchmaster
Thanks OH for the pictures, now I don't need to go. But then it's just a house where a farang once lived before he disappeared. Not that interesting IMHO.
limbo
Munchmaster, Not completely right, went there a couple of moons ago and really enjoyed it. There's even some fire damage in the wooden house from WW2 fire bombs from US bombers!
cavanami
Munchmaster, Not completely right, went there a couple of moons ago and really enjoyed it. There's even some fire damage in the wooden house from WW2 fire bombs from US bombers! No quite correct. Per William Warren who wrote a book about Jim Thompson, which I am presently reading, he started building the house around 1958. WW II had been over for over a decade. Jim Thompson took down 5 ~ 6 old Thai houses and used the lumber to build his house(s). One of the houses used for parts may have been damaged. Good book, some Thailand history and a pleasant read. limbo
If that's so, I stand corrected, this is however, what I recollect from memory, from my tour of the house, waaaaay back.
Nervous_Dog
THe fire damage I think being reeferred to is Vimiluck Palace. For those who enjoy old thai houses, the thai version of Jim Tomson house is near Victory monument. Wonderful compound of 8 seperate houses
