The Thai BOI is probably falsified to make the country look less medieval and exploitive of workers...I know PLENTY of Thais making 4,000-5,000 a month for full time. Construction workers sure as hell aren't making much than that.

 

I don't know if the information provided by the BOI is false, but it is incomplete. The BOI only provides information on companies receiving special promotional privileges, such as the "privilege" to be foreign majority owned or special tax exemptions. The BOI works on the "national champion model".

 

Under the national champion model, government buearacrats rather than the market decides what sort of investments should be made in Thailand. It is basically a way of trying to run a planned economy. Like all such methods, it creates all sorts of distortions and hinders more than it helps the economy. But that doesn't stop government officials from equating BOI investments with foreign investments, and ignorning the more productive forms of foreign direct investment in Thailand that are not subject to BOI promotion.

 

OK, back to wages paid by BOI companies. Because these are companies receiving special privileges (e.g., tax holidays) and they often (but not always) involve larger industrial projects or projects the buearacrats believe to be high-tech, and thus it is likely that, on average, workers in BOI promoted companies receive substantially higher wages than workers in companies that do not receive BOI promotion.

Short Time: 1000-1500

Long Time: 1500-2000

I think the BG's forget sometimes that (as crude as this may sound), they are selling a product (in their case, sex), which is the same as any other product for sale in the world in that people will discuss how much they paid, how much they should pay and what the current market situation is.
