Obviously I voted Oil and Gas, its the field I have most experience.

Experience counts but just as important IMHO is having some sort of stability in Thailand. Before I took up my current position I was globe hopping on a number of contracts, chasing the petro dollar, I first worked in Thailand in '91 and when the contract was over chose to make it my home base. On and off probably 1 in 3 contracts I got were in Thailand in between stints in such kuxurious postings such as Saudi, Oman, Qatar and Yemen to name but a few.

Along the way boy meets girl, buy home get married blah blah blah some form of Stability in life. When I was offered a full time job with a MNC in Thailand I had 14 years of living in Thailand under my belt, worked 30% of that time in Kingdom, and was prepared to travel if no work available here, married home owner in BKK. I do believe that stability was viewed just as important as my experience when I was offered the position.

Now I have the dream job, working in the field I know best as a consultant based in Thailand with expenses paid business trips around Asia, I like to think of it as a reward for 20+ years of globe hopping and following the latest technology , computerised controls systems is my specialist trade and it has changed one hell of a lot over the last 20 years.

I probably made my own opportunity over a 14 year period, getting more experienced in my profession, work experience in Thailand and having a stable home base here. If you are determined enough it is possable to get a decent job, but just don't expect to fly in from overseas to take up a position or find one whilst on a 2 week vacation, it has to be worked at.

KKM,

Which phase of an Oil and Gas construction project?

FEED / PMC Level or as EPC in either Engineering Procurement or Construction. I think you will find that salaries at the construction level are a lot lower than Engineering and PMC.

the question is a bit strange!

do you mean the best paid jobs, or the easiest available jobs or what!

while jobs as a teacher or dive instructor are relatively easy to get, they are usually not very well paid.

as for the most of the others it depends pretty much on the employer and where you apply!

i have worked (and am still working) in 2 of your categories and have for both not applied in LOS!

Manufacturing. Same-same as Drogon. The thing is that any field is ripe, if *you* are a Top Gun, and your skills are needed, and you can sell yourself...

But I voted management. Because in a nutshell, expats are hired to be in charge. As an old friend used to say "If Asians ever learn to make decisions, then we'll be out of our jobs!"

Cheers,

SD -- the latter is most important in my 1st paragraph list
