..
We've been in decline for years its just so bad that the average person realizes it. That's what I've been saying for years. All of these GOP tax cuts are not free. We are seeing the cost of 30 years of Reaganomics! The only question is if we can salvage anything or not. Cheers' date=' SD[/quote'] I always wonder if GWB was not elected in 2000, would the 'attack' of September 11, 2001 have not occurred? Even after the attack, if the country had spent money helping the industries, etc. affected by 9/11/2001 and had secured the country so such an incident would never happen again, would we be in the mess we are in now? If we had not went to Afghanastan and Iraq but provided for our own people instead of other people, would we be better off?

ghelseth
1. The workers average around $26 hr. The non-union workers at the plants in the south make around $14/ hr., with fewer benefits. This is the wage model the republicans want to force on the UAW, hoping to break it. Thats all this is really about: Breaking the union because it supported Obama. I hope Obama and the Democrats pass card check and the UAW heads south to organize the Honda, Toyota, and other foreign plants that were built down there with the express purpose of avoiding unions and paying much lower wages. You try living on $14/hr. Chook dee. 2. The UAW has already made lots of concessions, including elimination of the job bank, lower starting wages, and less medical insurance coverage for retirees. BTW, the GM medical plan is the largest purchaser of Viagra in the USA, so they're at least enjoying their retirement. 3. If the carmakers are declared bankrupt, their pension obligations don't go away. They are simply transferred, assets and obligations, to the Federal Pension Guaranty(sp?) Corp., which is currently about 20 billion in the hole. Guess who will bail it out if necessary? 4. A deal will be struck in the next few days, probably using TARP funds. This will allow the good old boy southern senators to look good to their Japanese bosses while having the added benefit of getting rid of the 'christmas tree' aspects of the bill mentioned above. Among other things, the House passed bill would bail out city transit systems who participated in a now illegal tax evasion scheme. Only in America.
