mainsail
For me it comes down to this: Do we want to take care of our home and preserve it for future generations or just plunder stupidly ahead for short-term profit? Where is our sense of responsibility? We are in the middle of a major shift and adjustment in our economy, culture and environment. As people are forced to make do with less it will be interesting to see if we all revert to only looking out for ourselves or if there is a sense of stewardship for the greater good. Over the past twenty years the third world has been raising it's standard of living and their populations want to claim their part of the good life. We are witnessing the seismic shift in the first world adjusting to this as our economies tank. The world is flattening with the first world standard of living going down. Several people have mentioned that climate change does not matter because they will be dead before the big changes occur. It is interesting to ponder the Buddhist way of thinking that we come back here again after death and that karma will come back to you even in your next life. If you frame the situation that way then we cannot escape the consequences of our actions in this life. That increases the level of responsibility we have as stewards of the planet. rogueyam
RY, do you believe there is a global-wide warming or that there is no such thing ? There have always been, and there will always be, alternating periods of either warming or cooling for reasons that are largely unknown to man. There has been a measured warming trend over the last several generations although the precision and accuracy of those measurements are unknown. Many scientific observers seem to think that this warming trend stopped over a decade ago. I think those who insist we expend substantial resources now to avoid greenhouse gas emissions (and embrace socialistic world government in so doing) are would-be tyrants or else the dupes thereof. We are being stampeded into poverty and slavery for ideological reasons, not for scientific ones.
rogueyam
Another pointless RY post. I don't think you are too stupid to understand my post but you are certainly too stupid to respond meaningfully to it.

You have been duped by leftists into a false consciousness. The question before us is not whether we should continue to stupidly plunder the planet but rather whether we in fact are stupidly plundering it. You are being led into slavery bound in chains forged from your own ignorance and sanctimony.
buffalo_bill
RY , thank you for your answer to my question . As far as it concerns your answers to other people's posts I fail to follow my Christian education's basic law which tells me to love my neighbours . Some of them seem to be plain idiots , never mind .
rchapstick
GEEZ' date=' RY, you just can't seem to get those meds titrated correctly![/quote'] Geeze, chappie, you just can't seem to say anything intelligent! Now Ehrlich's buddy John Holdren is Bambi's science advisor. We can all rest easy knowing that the leader of the free world is being advised by a neo-Malthusian who thinks man's greatest hope is to give up trying. Once the reverse-Cassandra's have their way we can all enjoy the spartan yet righteous life of the Maoist peasant. Well, not our green overlords but the rest of us certainly. And that was intelligent??????? Have another glass of Kool-Aid pal .... Just so you know, RY, it is much more fun to mock you than to debate you, as debating you is a pointless exercise that results in you: a) Going into "LIE" "FALSE" mode Having you claim that you don't need to respond, due to your VASTLY superior intellect (can't help but laugh out loud when I type that) c) Reverting to complete silence.
