Expat Monthly Income

Teaching salaries - from primary through tertiary - will almost always fall in the 30,000 to 50,000 range. Only the international schools will pay in the 90,000 to 120,000 range, and even they have a nasty habit of paying less to foreign teachers hired here than those hired abroad.

So why do people work for that pay? 1) It is their chosen profession. 2) You do get some nice long holidays. It is ridiculously low though, when you considered that it hasn't gone up in about 12 years!

How do we live on it?

1) Live in the suburbs, where rents are cheap.

2) Eat Thai food most of the time.

3) Ride the Skytrain, boats or taxis instead of buying a car. (Who wants to drive in this traffic anyway?)

4) Limit your carousing to weekends. After all, you've got 365 days a year to do it, not just a couple of weeks.
