shygye
Windows 7. It happened so suddenly, which is the puzzlement. I dumped the browser cache, so that's gone. Windows will grab 15% of your hard drive for restore points, backups, etc.
expat
You need to show hidden operating system files to see where the missing stuff is, I reckon. My win 7 is acting up too--I wonder if there's some virus floating about.
Flashermac
I've had Win 7 about two weeks. The gigabyte got filled up just two days ago. That's why I wondered about a nasty bug. I opened the hidden files and still didn't find where it all went.
Flashermac
Bizarre ... I ran Advanced System Care and the first time I ran it, it found 36 meg of junk. Deleted that and ran it again ... another 26 meg. A third run and another 23 meg. Finally, the fourth time no junk files were found. No change in my C drive usage though. Not another damned virus on the loose!
expat
I still feel it's not a virus, but my opinion is probably worth the cyberspace it's written on.
Coss
""By the way, I think 30 gigs is about normal for win 7."" you're kidding... My OS X Leopard System is 3.68 Gb Just an observation... Coss
expat
My OS X Leopard System is 3.68 Gb Just an observation... Coss I'm sure that will be helpful to Flashermac. Hey, Flashermac, check out this link. Probably won't help, but I keep wondering if system restore is the problem: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/5482/make-system-restore-use-less-space-in-windows-7/
acockasian
On download.com there is a freeware program called Ultimate Defrag. It has a really nice graphic of a disk - you can click on the data and it gives a very detailed description of what it is. Worth a try if this problem persists. kamui
Another guess is, that this are system restore files. Every time you install new software, hardware or udated your system, you Windows will make a back up of the system files. Nevertheless, in my experience it takes 1-2 years until Windows has doubled its space needed. I rund Windows 7 since 6 months or so and it takes 15,9 GB of space. There must be something wrong with your OS system, but I have no idea what it could be.
Flashermac
I hope I don't have to reload the whole thing again.
