Ministry: 46,000 people attend UDD rally

A total of 46,377 people took part in the mass rally organised by the anti-government United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) in Bangkok, the Ministry of Interior reported on Sunday evening.

Hey Flasher. From your position on the ground there, part of the community -- would you say the Red Shirts have a significant chance of seeing their (current) stated goals come to fruition (dissolution and election)?

Though it's non-violent, the application of some MAOist tactics gives one pause, especially considering the history of the area. It seems that regardless, the government needs better relations and policies with the provinces.

I don't know though, reading through the conflicting views and stories coming, it's hard to weigh as an outsider.

In a country with 62+ million people, are 100,000 a fair sample of what the people want? I don't see the government giving in, which could drive some of the Red Shirts to violence. If they do, that's the end of them. The government also knows it would lose all support if it began a violent crackdown on peaceful protestors. Neither side is eager for anything but a peaceful solution.

I could see this dragging out indefinitely. Remember how long the Yellow Shirts sat downtown at the same place, seizing Government House and finally the airport.

This could be over soon, or drag out for weeks. It's anyone's guess.

40,000...46,377....60,000 ...80,000 or 100,000 red shirts. Even the last number is far far away from the expected 1,000,000 protesters. Once the 2,000 or 4,000 THB are consumed they will go back to their rice fields and drink Lao Khao.

They claim to fight for real democracy. LOL. If at the check points they would have asked some simple questions about democracy and only let them pass if they can come up with halfway answer not even 1,000 would have been allowed to enter Bangkok.

Thaksin's final battle, the March of Millions, becomes his own Waterloo...while the big leader is on a shopping spree through Europe.

Thaksin loves superlatives, and yes he will enter history as the biggest coward of all time.
