... Despite being described as "saintly," "courageous," and the "moral conscience" of the Catholic hospital, McBride was excommunicated from the Catholic Church by Phoenix Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted for supporting the abortion.

"An unborn child is not a disease ... the end does not justify the means," Olmsted said in a statment issued to a the Arizona Republic newspaper this past May.

Hospital officials defended McBride's actions and released a statement saying, "In this tragic case, the treatment necessary to save the mother's life required the termination of an 11-week pregnancy." ...

So pedos aren't excommunicated, but a nun that decides to save a mother of 4 children is? :hmmm:

But we hid you away in barn nawk where you can't do any harm! ;)

p.s. Catholic Church policy is that abortion cannot be performed even if it is necessary to save the mother's life! Better that she should snuff it and a kid be born an orphan. I've never met a Catholic who agrees with that, but the church doesn't ask what its members think. :(

Its not religion its man. Our nature. Removing religion won't stop atrocities or crazy thinking, etc. The USSR, Nazi Germany, red China were devoid of religion for the most part, a couple of them state sanctioned and they were responsible for atrocities.

Politics have been responsible for atrocities as well. Get rid of politics?

Money, sex/women, a few things have caused man to do horrific things to each other. Ban them too?

There are numerous examples of people around the world, tribes in Africa, South America, native Americans of the past, that are peaceful and have a religion.

There are obvious horrors done in the name of religion or specifically christianity, but I've also seen lives changed. Violent ex-cons, drug addicts and the like, forever changed because of it.

Remove religion and we'd find another excuse to kill each other. We always have and always will, again, its our nature as a species.

Anyway, Christianity got perverted when it became a state religion in imperial Rome. An already corrupt government, corrupted the religion. You dance with the devil, the only person that can change is you. The devil won't change. Such is organzied religion.

KS

The major thing wrong with the religious is that if it was possible to get rid of religion, there would be strillions of brain dead people wandering the planet with no guide book to behaviour and such.

On balance you'd have to agree, that religion does guide a lot of people (the ones that need their thinking done for them, and there are a lot of these) and keep them out of trouble.

It's a shame that religion is such a flawed concept.

Communism and fascism simply became substitutes for religion. The "believers" put just as much faith into their ideologies as the fanatics put into their religions. There seems to be a type of person that needs something unequivocal to believe in without question. If it isn't religion, it will be politics or something else.

They have excommunicated the nun within a few months for saving the mothers live. But since the the catholic church hasn't excommunicated _one_ paedophile priest who destroyed the lives of dozens of even hundreds of boys and girls.

The catholic church is a f@cking disgrace (I am a member of it but I guess not that long anymore).

Guys, you should ALL read this, and ponder on it.

From the Catechism of the Catholic Church

The short version is that, under Church Law going back very nearly two thousand years, the nun's, and the hospital's, obligation in the case under discussion was to bust their humps and do everything they could to save BOTH mother *AND* child.

That includes both medical treatment to the best of their ability *AND* praying their asses off.
