TheCorinthian
Some would say we did the same in Dresden, Germany. Also, Hamburg's bombing had an estimated 50k civilians killed. War is hell. Ain't it the truth. We did. Did anyone ever deny this here?
unit731
So the A-bomb also saved the lives of many Japanese in a strange twist of fate. Yes. Many lives were spared with this action. But hidden in the facts is the Yalta agreements. Russia to declare war on Japan. None of the Allies wanted a divided Japan. Nor Russian troops entering Japan. Just look up the history of the Kuril Islands. There is always more to the story.
bust
Oh no they are correct' date=' the war was lost. But you could not tell the Japanese that. Esp the high command. Even the Germans knew when it was all over. Check the number of Japanese forces that surrendered on any of the islands before the bomb and you will see what I am talking about.[/quote'] Are you admiting that the USA did target civilians especially in Tokyo? Some would say we did the same in Dresden, Germany. Also, Hamburg's bombing had an estimated 50k civilians killed. War is hell. Ain't it the truth. Some estimate the death toll from Little Boy and Fat Man at over 250,000. The number of troops in those areas at the time was estimate at around 40,000. Fortunately, senile, sickly old FDR had died and Truman become president. Truman couldn't undo FDR's give away of Eastern Europe to Stalin (though he did unsuccessfully try to save part of Silesia for Germany), but he was determined not to let Stalin divide Japan ... which "Uncle Joe" definitely wanted. The Russians did occupy more than they were supposed to anyway, grabbing offshore islands of Hokkaido which are not part of the Chishima (aka Kurile) Islands. The Japanese are still trying to get them back, and Putin recently made a visit there to thumb his nose at Japan. Stalin got Karafuto (southern Sakhalin), which happened to have Japan's only oil fields.
gobbledonk
I still dont understand why Stalin, a man who butchered more people than Hitler, is still revered in Russia (and some of the old Soviet states). They must have very different history books.

They must have very different history books. It probably has to do with the nature of people. In the USA the Native Americans were sent to reservations and a lot of them were killed out right. So! chuckwoww
People can justify anything. The people in Russia who revere Stalin probably think the people he mistreated were traitors and deserved it. Much like the people in the US who can't see anything wrong with the Kill Team.
