Evolution of this board

Khun Sanuk and I ran this board together for many years, trying to keep conversations reasonably civil, and protecting everyone's privacy so that potentially controversial topics can be discussed.

In the post-KS era, there will inevitably be people reconsidering where they want to put their focus.  If people are dissatisfied with how the board works (or the db failures that have plagued us lately 😉 they are certainly free to go start their own forum.

However when one of the mods abuses the trust of this community, by

1- abusing mod privileges to harvest the personal info of the entire community in order to lure them to his rival board

2- revealing that personal info by emailing all the addresses to the entire list.

It must be addressed.  We thank Coss for his previous contributions.

I very much doubt it was the intention of Coss to set up an “alternative board” to Thai360 as such, but to have have a back up in place  where us old farts could keep in touch if Thai360 was to disappear completely. Some of us have been here over 25 years and can’t be arsed with Facebook and all that, just need a simple place to post our whinges and shit.

I realise the CC of emails could be seen a breach of privacy, but I know for a fact that he meant to BCC all recipients since 11 minutes after sending that email out he emailed me direct to say that someone was complaining that they weren’t BCC’d on the email. I very much doubt anyone who received the email is going to use the info for nefarious purposes

Well he didn't do a great job of emailing everyone because I missed out on the email.....or perhaps that was deliberate.

Gentlemen, I am overwhelmed by the reappearance of this fine board since I have been plagued by the idea it was all over now. I am therefore principally with Mr. Coss trying to lead all of us like Moses over the Red Sea towards a new promised land. I may at this moment remind the community that an earlier of his projects like establishing a Deep Klong Anglers Club already failed miserably. Probably due to lack of living fish in the Bangkok klongs. This was 20 years ago I guess. Finally I propose to have Mr Coss pay a fine of 200 Baht for abusing other people´s email and close the matter. Which further makes me propose Mr Jigger to issue a warning in case he intends to shut the board for some time. Insofar I do even agree with Mr. Mekong that we are basically lost without it.

yes I made a mistake in not BCCing the email to announce a substitute board, ergo, some of you might have found out, the emails, of some of you.

Jigger, I heartily apologise for the impression, that the other, now defunct board, was a rival, or in some way a competitive board.

My only motive was, that as this board, looked like it was gone, that we have a place to continue the discussions. That's all it was.

Stick, no one was omitted, I didn't use the board's database to find these emails, all I did look for active posters and hand copy the emails, of some 65, of which 10 or so are broken and don't work. If you were omitted, it's because when I collected the emails, sometime after the last extended outage, they were all, that were easily identified, as active in the previous few months.

Again, all I wanted to do was provide a place for us to chat, as I had no knowledge of what was happening with Jigger, or the board. And with all of us reaching our end of, dates, It could have been that Jigger in the hospital for health or accident reasons. As Jigger is famously incommunicative, probably for good reasons, like being busy at work, I had no idea and didn't want Thai360 to disappear, like pfft!

So - onwards...

One note, Jigger, nowhere in any of this have I suggested that the now defunct, other board, was a rival or competitor, or a board for me, to take over the Thai360 mantle. 

Imagine the Thai360 board is a bus and we're all on it traversing the ether, then the bus breaks down, I turn up with another bus, for us to use, until the original bus is repaired or cannot be, I've gained no advantage, in providing a another bus..

These comments of yours, are almost word for word, the accusations a person has made to me, off board and elsewhere. I'm not suggesting you have used his words, it could be that great minds think alike. That other person has caused me strife in the past and no doubt will continue to do so, if he's able.

I would value your clarification, that your words are yours and don't derive from the malcontent.

Lastly from me:

We're all getting old and dying, so my contribution to this trend is: Major flat out on the floor, Stroke in 2017, Metastatic Melanoma Stage 4, through all parts of the body, resulting in 7 operations including Brain surgery, 5 courses of radiation therapy and now Keytruda, which has all got me back on track, hopefully.

As a result of this there have been times, when I could not face a computer, for months. I apologise for any failings in my demeanour or behaviour.

In regards to my being a mod, I've appealed in the mods section, for others to make themselves known. I would happily hand off this status. But as I seem to be the only Mod left, I've continued to do it, nuking spammers etc, for the sake of the board and in memory of my fondness for K.S.

Jigger if you want to remove my mod status, I'm happy about that, but will continue if there's no alternative.

So all,  sorry for all of this, it was all done with the best of intentions. God knows I don't need the headaches of setting up another board and dealing with issues.

As a rather infrequent visitor to the board these days, I was quite touched to be included in your email. 

I felt that it was a well-meant, and thoughtful attempt to keep us all in touch, and personally was grateful for the concern for us all that motivated it.

Thai360.com, and nanaplaza.com before it, have been a valued link to the Land of Smiles for over 20 years now, and I still visit most years, but with my wife these days. We always stay at the Nana Hotel on arrival for a night or two, and have a wander down Memory Lane ( OK, Soi 4 )

My wife is ok with walking around Sukhumvit, we stay on Soi 8 ever since my old digs aka the Federel closed down and sold off…so many memories…she is ok to walk around and see the sights…until some woman pops out with “…hi Old Hippie…” then not so good…

Yeah, that's definitely a rough situation. It's always tough when trust is broken, especially in a community where people are just here to share and chat. I've seen forums go downhill when mods misuse their power, and it’s a shame because it can really hurt the vibe of the place. Hopefully, the focus can shift back to what made the board good in the first place—having civil, open conversations without all that behind-the-scenes drama. It’s definitely important to have clear boundaries and make sure everyone feels safe and respected.
