gobbledonk
Guys, I'm no prude - believe me - but can we try to save words like slut and whore for people who have done us some grievous injustice, please ? If a woman chooses to exchange sexual favours for money, is it she doing it to hurt males ? In most cases, I sincerely doubt it - its her job. Yes, 'whore' may be historically accurate, and 'prostitute' is too clinical, but whats wrong with 'working girl' ? If she takes your wallet, then the other terms may be more appropriate. I am not asking for the Nightlife forum to become the Girl Guides, far from it, and this isnt about putting the girls up on a pedestal, its just about something resembling mutual respect for another human being whose sole crime is to be willing to have sex with Farangs in exchange for next weeks rent. How many other women in your life were this honest about their motives ? End of sermon.

khunsanuk
Hi, Just for the record, I agree with the sentiments expressed by Artiew, and would appreciate it too if people would refraid from using those words. I will, however, not tell you that you cannot use these words. Sanuk!
ALHOLK
Hi! Just out of interest. If we refer to to girls selling sex as 'working girls' what do we call those girls that have opted for another line of work. Would non working girls be correct or maybe layabouts. :grinyes: regards ALHOLK
jp1
Well, let's call them sex workers, or girls in the sex industry. In Thailand it's really a kind of industry, isn't it? :hubba:
gobbledonk
Al, I take your point, but have you ever approached a woman and asked her is she was a 'working girl' when you meant something other than sex work ? If a woman works as a lawyer, bartender or brickies labourer, we have terms for those professions, but very few people want to hear about them in the Nightlife section. Old Hippie
Have to agree that out of "PROPER" context, those words and a few others are inappropriate. We should remember that these ladies are human, and we are for the most part gemtleman, and we should conduct ourselves accordingly!
gobbledonk
Phil, I welcome 'fun' responses - I just ask that people think before they type. If my request is cramping their 'style', then I apologise, but I think the majority will see some merit in my proposal. We routinely cop some flak from members of that 'other' board, claiming that many of us 'put the whores up on a pedestal' (their words, not mine). The alternative is to confirm every stereotype that society-at-large has of the 'sex tourist' in Thailand : predators who view women as little more than receptacles for their bodily fluids. If I want to read about 'sluts who just cant get enough', I can go to any number of porn sites online - NP is so much more than that.

In most cases, I sincerely doubt it - its her job. Let's try with what they call themselves - "work bar". Widely used term "BG" fits, me thinks. "Freelancer" is also appropriate for that kind of "sex workers". In Oz, their offical name (for tax purposes) is "sex worker". 17 thousand of them in NSW (official data from the "Sex Workers Association").
