I would still like to know, what would the thais call a caucasian foreigner if not farang?

Chaow Dtang Prathat Mee Piw Phaow?

Khon Dtang Chaat Mee Piw Khaow?

Khon Dtang Chaat Europe?

Or what exactly?

I can`t believe that this thread has been going on for so long, what in the name of the Lord would you expect a thai to refer to a caucasian in everyday terms if not Farang?

Insult? This is an everyday term fer chrissake, you are so extrapolating.

Khun, nai, nai hang, khon nan, khon nee, khon nohn, khao, ai bah etc

I've never heard my wife refer to me as "Farang" except in jest. I responded calling her as khon Lao and she cracked up. Same with her family. I'm khun to my in-laws, Ah ... to their children.

p.s. How would you feel in the US or UK is people constantly refered to you as "the white guy", "the N word", the "dago" etc?

Hi,

"I'm khun to my in-laws, Ah ... to their children. "

Same for me, although it is 'Nah' :)

There's an old Chinese lady in my soi who I sometimes meet in the morning when she is walking her dog. She tends to address me as 'Hia' (no, not as in 'ay hia' :) )

Sanuk!

I remember back in the 60's in the US (upstate NY) it was common to refer to a black person as a "nigger" ... an everyday term fer chrissake.

In parts of the south, it sadly is still an everyday term.
