Famous Grouse
Its not really a story of interest outside Thailand or perhaps even Pattaya
Bangkoktraveler
Shit, it could have happened. But then in the West, how many tourist get treated this way over a small dispute? Shit like this can drive the tourist to go somewhere else to spend there money. Pepper spraying a person for 60 baht is farking stupid in my opinion. Shit, what would they do if I was overcharged 100 baht?
unit731
I never met a Norwegian I didn't like. Padding? Who me? I check the bill every time. Let's see, how many gals did I buy a lady drink for?
Guy Himmaparn
Without witnessing the events how do we know now precisely what happened? I've seen my share of drunken louts and obnoxious bar owners and can easily envision scenarios where either party is to blame. Taking sides with such little to go by tells us more about the poster than the incident. Been overcharged? Blame the owner.... Been physically threatened by a drunk? Blame the Norwegian...
chelseafan
think you are jumping to conclusions too fast. From what we know, how many bars have pepper spray? After asking that question, how many bars are willing to use pepper spray over a 60 baht dispute? How many times have any of us been over charged? And how many of us are willing to pay the dispute and move on instead of getting beaten on? Shit, how many times has this dispute come up and we have been told to look the other way. This part of Thai culture 'never' happens. It looks like the bar is over armed (uses pepper spray to 'enforce' almost anything) and the farang may hnot have realized by questioning the bill could produce a pepper spray attack followed by a beating. How am I jumping to conclusions ? I think I stated that we dont know the circumstances...Everyone seems to be defending this guy so I am playing devils advocate. rchapstick
So why bring it up at all FG?
shygye
... probably because most people have experienced bill padding in bars and restaurants.
Hugh_Hoy
In over 20 years, I've only been overcharged once (that I know of). I think it was an honest mistake rather than having the tab intentionally padded. On the otherhand, I can't recall anybody posting about an occasion when they were UNDERcharged.
