itsmedave Posted August 7, 2008 Report Share Posted August 7, 2008 Coming from a family where half of my relatives are Jewish, (not to mention looking at the stat's) I would agree that most Jews vote Democratic. The reason is fairly simple. The Republicans tie themselves so ferociously to Jesus Christ that they feel left out. People vote for who they think will protect their interests, and while Repub's are VERY strong on Isreal...the average Jew here has few if any comtact with Isrealis and is much more concerned with their personal interests and are made to feel like second class citizens by all the GOP talk about this being a "Chrstian" country. It really is a stretch to "blame" Christianity for that alignment, I think. Barry...it's possible that Jesus might be considered a leftist, but I doubt it. Steve Posted August 7, 2008 Report Share Posted August 7, 2008 Interesting and something a lot of biblical scholars have debated. Basically, what ideology is closest to Jesus' teachings. He and his disciples lived as socialists, sharing everything but he also talked about personal responsibility which is cornerstone of Republican (conservative) ideals. I recall at a men's meeting of a church I belonged to once when politics was discussed I argued against the progressive tax system. I advocated a flat tax and said that the church asked for a flat 10% from everyone. It never said rich should pay more. You can make offerings above the 10% tithe and are encouraged to but to keep the 'law' as it was given, its 10% for everyone. After the crops were harvested, the poor were allowed to go over the fields and whatever they found, was theres. Also the Jews had laws that would restore the land to its original owner and would make Jewish slaves free. Our bankruptcy laws mimic these old Jewish laws. Jews and early Christians had a tremendous amount of passion for the poor, the widow, the parentless children. Today, most of that does not exist. If you saw news coverage of Obama in Florida addressing a group of Jews, you'd know what "ass kissing" is; actually, I'd say it was closer to rimming.
