Why I'm Betting On Barack Obama's Victory

You donâ??t vote at the Embassy' date=' you must mail the the absentee ballot to the local district you are registered in. In order to vote, you must register by 5 Sept 2008. Elections, even federal ones, are controlled by the states, therefore there is no mechanism for a polling station to be located at a US Embassy.

I do believe that if you put the proper US postage on your ballot, the Embassy will send it to the US for mailing.

Don't be scared- you won't turn into a pinko lefty commie just for getting your ballot from Democrats Abroad.

To get an absentee ballot by email, click here.

Doesn't matter where you get the ballot from, my point was you cannot vote at the Embassy. you must mail an absentee ballot to the district you are registered in.

Cripes, you really are a banana republic aren't you?

The Australian Embassy sets up a proper polling station for several weeks before the election and I use this marvelous excuse to break the marital bonds for a few days, head down to Bangkok, cast my neo Communist/Socialist/Far Leftist Party vote and spend a couple of days frolicking in the flesh pots.

It will be a cold day in hell before the federal government runs an election and you see a polling station at a US Embassy. :susel:

Stateâ??s rights has probably been the biggest issue through out US history. The War Between the States (aka â??the civil warâ?Â), the war that even as of today killed the most Americans, was basically about Stateâ??s Rights.

Just wondering...what is it with the few on this board still arguing for the Republicans that they all resort to the 2nd grade debate tactic of name calling as opposed to an explanation of policy differences.

Barack Obama is rarely called Barack Obama. Instead it's Barry (a racial comment, I guess), Bambi (I have no idea what this is supposed to mean, unless they are saying he is peaceful), Osama, Obama Bin Laden (seems to me they gave up the right to call him a Muslim when they said he was a disciple of Protestant preacher Wright)...etc.

Is this all you've got?

And why the personal attack? What has Obama done to you?

I can see why you'd want to vote against him if you disagreed with his policies...like say, you don't want healthcare for people...you want to stay in Iraq for as long as possible...you want to continue the Bush economy...etc. But why denigrate him as a person by name calling when nothing suggests he's done the same to you.

even the most anti McCain people pretty much still call him John McCain (maybe Johnnie if they are really out there...or McSame...but at least this is a comment on his policies...that they are the same as Bush's failed schemes). Do you think it says more about you than Obama when you have to resort to immature name calling?

They are participating in the great right wing propaganda project. Belittleing and dehumanising the opposition in order to influence the non-politicised floating voter becomes a habit for them.

Okay I don't agree with Mr. Obama's policies!!! Happy :neener:

I am against anyone who is going to cost me money which is what his policies would do.

My political affiliations are based strictly on who puts the most money in my pocket! If that makes me shallow and materialistic; oh well no one else will look out for us. :dunno:

Congratulations, you may have had more money in your pocket the past eight years (I didn't, but maybe you did). However, that was just a loan, cuz we have to pay for the last eight years. Funny how that works. The GOP loves them the spend first and tax later, leaving the latter bit to the Dems who always have to bail out the sinking ship.

If you were honest with yourself, you'd see the need for the adults to take over again. The children have had their little party the past several years, spent like a drunken sailor, and now we have to clean up the mess. Our own kids will have to as well, this mess is so big. Do you really want your grandchildren saddled with the burden as well, just so you can have an extra few hundred bucks in *your* pocket at the end of the year?

And you call yourself a patriotic American. Sheesh! Patriots think of the greater good as well as themselves and balance them both.

Why reward failure? The Republicans have gone against everything they said they were for. They said they were the party of small government, and they bloated up government instead. They said they were the party of keeping America's soldiers at home rather than sending them all over the place as the world's policemen, and now we have not one, but two Vietnams. They said they were going to get government off our back, then passed the No Child Left Behind Act that tells my child's teacher how she has to teach my child, something that ought to be between me, my child's teacher, and my local school board where I can call up my school board member and bitch at her, not some goddamned Federal bureaucrat in Washington D.C. They said they were for balanced budgets, then ran up the biggest budget deficits ever. And so on and so forth. Seven years of that kind of nonsense. There used to be some Republicans who were men of principle and honor. But I'll be damned if I can find any of 'em in the current bunch. Since this is a democracy rather than a dictatorship, I'll vote for anybody but Republicans this year -- and if the Democrats are as bad as you say, I'll vote them out of office four years from now too. That's democracy.

Cheers,

SD
