buddha
We have lots of threads like...can i survive off of 45,000 baht per month, 60,000 baht...whatever... What would be the absolute minimum one could spend and where would be the most enjoyable place to spend it. To get the ball rolling...I just got laid off and want to spend 6-12 months just concentrating on fitness. No beer, no p4p [or very limited], no western food, no air con, no taxis, real eye of the tiger stuff. I would prefer to be near the ocean for snorkeling and fishing. I would show up with a mountain bike and that would be my form of transport. I think I could pull it off in Phuket but the last time I was there was pre tsunami. If you were going super spartan what could you EXIST on? And where would you do it?
buddha
SO maybe a coastal region until I ride myself into shape and then relocate to the mountain regions once I'm fit. Any ideas are helpful...
Bangkoktraveler
A straw lean-to will probably sit you back 200 baht and a sleeping mat for 40 baht will get you sit up on the beach. If you fish, then you will only need to buy rice. 300 - 400 baht per month.

khunsanuk
Hi, Some guestimates based on living in, say, Rayong or some similar place. Rent: 3,000-4,000 Bills: 1,000-1,500 Food: 100-150 Baht/day -> ~3,750 Groceries: 2,500 So, maybe 11,000 Baht / month? Will be a very boring existence though. More realistic might be about 20,000-25,000. Oh, and budget some money for the visa trip. Sanuk!

Stickman
I'd agree that less than 20K baht a month would be cutting it really tight. I have a friend who lives on 23K baht a month and he wrote about his budget here

I would call it an even 30K per month that factors in 1K to get laid once a week! Man does not live by sticky rice alone! S1
