From a computer, far away in Middle Earth, my overwhelming impression of Seh Daeng was that he was living the "Rambo" dream that seems to affect so many self aggrandising macho males in SEA.

I've noticed that in recent days before this happened, he was telling the media that he was doing what Thaksin wanted and that Thaksin wanted them to keep fighting and not disperse. This completely at odds with what Thaksin himself was telling the media.

Don't know if what the truth really was, but I would at least guess that if Thaksin was against the reconciliation, that he wouldn't want this guy in particular out there as his public spokesman to deliver the message. So it makes me wonder what on earth Seh Daeng was thinking by doing that.

And it also makes me wonder (along with so many of his actions) whether he hadn't just lost touch with reality, lost his sanity even -- in a Colonel Kurtz kind of way.

It could be that that aerobics assignment he got a few years back was what made him snap.

Who knows.

It'd make a hell of a documentary. Werner Herzog should direct. I can hear it now: "I have heard this rage before..."

He talkied about his fighting experience. I mean, there's probably people posting here on this board who've had battle experience that would make Seh Daeng look like a pussy in comparison. Cambodian border? Please. I'd say one reason he took on this persona was specifically due to his LACK of serious battle experience. No one who'd experienced serious war conditions would act like such a half-cocked idiot about fighting.

Some guys here, especially ones who were most critical of him before, posted to mention that they at least admired his courage.

The guy was a buffoon. He died a Darwin Award style death. (ok not quite yet, but any day now)

What were his last words again, spoken to the NY Times reporter? His last sentence "The military can not come in here..." punctuated by a shot to his head, large amounts of blood spurting out and him falling lifeless to the ground with his eyes open.

This particular scene might need to be directed by Tarantino. Just too perfect.

If you enjoy the carnage you're now seeing in BKK, then ok yes, you should toast Seh Daeng and admire his courage.

Seh Daeng faces risk of kidney failure

12:00am

Khattiya Sawasdipol's condition is deteriorating and he now faces the risk of kidney failure, doctors say.

Vajira Hospital director Wanchai Charoenchokthawee said the army specialist, known as Seh Daeng, was fighting for his life as his condition worsened yesterday.

Maj Gen Khattiya, who was critically injured when he was shot in the head on Thursday night, is under strict supervision at Vajira Hospital.

He has received medication to stimulate his blood pressure, which has continued to drop, but is now showing signs of kidney failure, Dr Wanchai said.

His condition is being monitored minute-by-minute.

Maj Gen Khattiya, who mobilised guards for the red shirt protesters, was shot while being interviewed by a foreign reporter near their protest site at Ratchaprasong intersection.

Maj Gen Khattiya's daughter, Khattiyaa, said she knew who shot her father but declined to name him.

She said only that the gunman, believed to be a sniper, was a military officer.

Ms Khattiyaa insisted she wished to keep her father alive for as long as possible as the red shirts were hoping for "good news".

She said she would carry on running the Khattiya Dhamma Party founded by her father. She was also contemplating entering politics.

<< In a rather ironic turn of events, Sedgwick fell at the beginning of the Battle of Spotsylvania Court House, on May 9, 1864. His corps was probing skirmish lines ahead of the left flank of Confederate defenses and he was directing artillery placements. Confederate sharpshooters were about 1,000 yards (910 m) away and their shots caused members of his staff and artillerymen to duck for cover.

Sedgwick strode around in the open and was quoted as saying, "What? Men dodging this way for single bullets? What will you do when they open fire along the whole line? I am ashamed of you. They couldn't hit an elephant at this distance."

Although ashamed, his men continued to flinch and he repeated, "I'm ashamed of you, dodging that way. [color:red]They couldn't hit an elephant at this distance.[/color]" Just seconds later he fell forward with a bullet hole below his left eye. >>
