Horneytorney
2008 BEIJING 1. China 51-21-28-100 2 USA 36-38-36-110 So going back over the previous 12 Olympics ie ones held since I have been alive on only 4 occasions have the host nation finished top of the medal table (as in golds won) even in 2008 USA won more medals than China in Beiling. thanks for statistics! you got above wrong or you have some geographical confusion! Beijing is a city in China and China won the MOST medals at the Beijing games! so it is actually 5 times which is already nearly HALF! of course smaller countries like Greece, South Korea or Japan have a bit troubles or it is nearly impossible to get to the top! So probably if you count all medals of the commonwealth countries for TEAM GB, they could also get the top position; of course India is not of big help for this! So Mekong you are invited to do a bit more statistics! would TEAM GB at the TOP, if all commonwealth medals count?
Mekong
Incorrect China finished top of the Medals table in Beijing but USA won the MOST MEDALS, which was your argument. As I stated 1980 and 1984 are skewed due to the boycotts bringing the true number down to 2 (or 1 based on your most medals won statement) How did you reach 5? I stated host nation won most golds on four occasions yet somehow you count China as twice. You cannot even grasp basic statistics.
Horneytorney
you are WRONG, Mekong, as top position gets the nation with the most GOLD medals and not with the most medals! 5 you get when you add the 2010 winter olympic games in Vancouver, where Canada won top position! so where is your statistic for GB including medals of commonwealth countries! Mekong
First you stated MEDALS WON not Top of the Table Now you are bringing WINTER OLYMPICS in to support your lame argument Just admit that I have made you look like a fool AGAIN
Horneytorney
your mood today is like your avetar's! YOU started to differentiate between total medals won and number of gold medals won! you are probably the only one who cares! YOU selected at random some olympic games to support your counterclaim! why exclude winter olympics? if some hairsplitting arguments can make you look arguably right and this increases without doubt your selfesteem and improves your mood, than i have no problems to look foolish in your eyes! sayjann
11 resp. 10 gold medals behind USA and China; host countries usually get the most medals! you really think the Brits would get more medals then the Americans and Chinese, even on home soil?. if so you are living in la-la land.... kamui
So going back over the previous 12 Olympics ie ones held since I have been alive on only 4 occasions have the host nation finished top of the medal table (as in golds won) even in 2008 USA won more medals than China in Beiling. 1980 and 1984 results are slightly skewed due to USA boycotting Moscow and Soviet Union boycotting Los Angeles so in fact the 1996 Atlanta games are the only ones where it can be said that the host nation won the most medals. Sort of blows your "The Host countries usually get the most medals" comment into a cocked hat does it not? As the statistic shows it was either USA or USSR. Now it will be China or USA. (Currently USA is in front of China...). Anyway, HT might not be completely wrong in regard to the host country ranking. I guess that there exists a statistics that shows that the host nation got a medal boost which pushed the host nation above its historical average in the medal ranking. GB seems to fly high at moment with 6 gold medals yesterday.
The_Munchmaster
11 resp. 10 gold medals behind USA and China; host countries usually get the most medals! As Mekong proved, your statement is completely wrong and as Sayjaan stated, there is no chance of the UK ever getting more medals than China or the USA. What a fool. what is the contribution of the Scots to those 10 Gold medals for Team GB? Scotland have contributed to 4 of the Gold Medals. Also a couple of silvers and a bronze. With Chris Hoy due to race again and Andy Murray in two tennis finals then hopefully we'll contribute a few more. Chris Hoy, Gold, Cycling, Team Sprint Heather Stanning, Gold, Rowing, Coxless Pair Timothy Baillie, Gold, Canoeing Slalom, C-2 team Katherine Grainger, Gold, Rowing, Double Sculls David Florence, Silver, Canoeing Slalom, C-2 team Michael Jamieson, Silver, Swimming, 200m Breaststroke Daniel Purvis, Bronze, Gymnastics, Team All-round
Flashermac
"Scotland have contributed to 4 of the Gold Medals. Also a couple of silvers and a bronze." Well done! Not bad for a country that has fewer people than Laos. Meanwhile, major league fark up. NBC forced to apologise after ill-timed ad features a monkey doing gymnastics - right after showing Gabby Douglas' gold medal victory NBC has become the centre of a race storm after airing an ad featuring a monkey performing gymnastics, right after showing the performance of Gabby Douglas, the first African-American to win Olympic gymnastics gold. The network has since apologised for the advert's poor timing, explaining: 'No offense was intended.' The controversy ignited as sportscaster Bob Costas wrapped his analysis of her incredible routine during the all-around competition last night. Costas said: 'There are some African American girls out there who tonight are saying to themselves: "Hey, I’d like to try that too." More from London in a moment.' The broadcast then went to a commercial break, showing an advertisement featuring a monkey wearing a gymnastics uniform and performing a rings gymnastics event. The unintentional, but poorly-timed ad was for Animal Practice, an upcoming NBC sitcom. Angry viewers lashed out at the network on social media platforms like Twitter, accusing them of racism. 'Disgusted at NBC for showing Animal Practice with monkey right after Gabby wins her gold,' one user posted. ... The poor gal!
