Yep, same disease that gives up 100 YouTube arsewipes arguing that you can easily live in Thailand on 50k a month.

 You actually can, just about.

OK, the apartment is fully paid for, I packed in drinking over five years ago and smoking more than than seven. Last time I was in a nightlife area was more than 10 years ago and we  live just outside Bangkok.

But you have to be rather frugal but it can be done just as long as you life the quiet life. Would I have tried it at 25-40 would I fuck, but nowadays I am quite content sat on my balcony with a cup of coffee sorting away on my iPad with memories of days gone by.

I knew when I wrote it that it had to be you !

Can I send a taxi to pick you up for a moderately inconsequential lunch near the JW ?

YouTube  Arse wipes…everyone is a “travel blog creator” or a “digital nomad/creator…” A lot of know it all know nothings…   I recall  having a “time share” with a bar girl from Lone Staar and another guy here… He paid tons more, and showered her with gifts…until his wife found out about her and a few others…about the same time the “time share” also found out he was giving money to other girls and also dumped him…apparently her pride was hurt that she was NOT his only Mia Noi… Saw her last trip, late 40’s now, a grand mother, still really cute and sweet…Sad thing, for all the money that passes through some hands, very little seems to stay…

Sorry for the digression, “…live on 50k a month…” um…*maybe* *IF* you are sponging off some Thai person, living in her room not paying rent or  giving her anything… There was a poster or 2 of old who were doing that…it didn’t work out for them and they ended up having the Embassy bail them out and bring them home…the girl presumably left with nothing but a bitter memory.

And how did you know it would be me? You have never met me and we barely post on the same threads yet somehow you have this preconceived idea that I am khi neow whereas, as anyone who know me will tell you, in fact the complete opposite.

I did not say “I live off 50,00THB out of necessity, as you are inferring, but, “I am currently living off 50,000THB per month”,  there is a difference.

Even though it is none of your business, I will explain why. Five years ago I suffered complete organ failure and was in a coma for 3 months, the hospital literally sent me home to die. I refused to and after 3 years being bed bound, slowly became more active and mobile again to a point I am at today where I am able to live a normal life at home, but still have a problem walking more than 100 Metres or so, so still need a wheelchair.

As such, our (my wife and I) current monthly expenditure (excluding medical bills) is around 50,000THB per month, not because we are penny pinching or on a budget, but because that is what it is.

In the UK the average take home salary is £2,300 per month, in London approx 54% goes on housing cost, let’s say £1,150 which leaves £1,150 per month. You do know want 50,000THB is in GBP don’t you? At today’s exchange rate it is £1,138. So, I spend less than £12 per month than your average London resident

Things are a lot cheaper here, Netflix 169 / month, Internet 490 / month, True Vision for Sport 375 / month, mobile phone 590 / month and so on. In UK Netflix is £10.99 or 485THB, Sky Sport is £56 or 2,,450 and so on. So I have the same disposable income as the average Londoner, my bills are a lot less, yet you say it is being tight fisted, go give your head a wobble

So when I say that I am content sitting on my balcony with a cup of coffee, doing bits and bobs online, as I am now,, that’s what ii mean, I am contented and happy to still be alive . Could I afford to spend more money? Sure but why if I am happy with what I have, no point in spending money unnecessarily.

As for JW Marriott, I would much prefer Sunday brunch at the Marriott resort, but since I have stopped drinking the unlimited wine would be wasted on me.

Cos I am a cheap Coss, I've been watching Kodi these last years and have been subscription free.

Not from expense issues mind, but from a refusal to pay for substandard services.

Take for example Sky Sport, the only reason to watch such, is the All Blacks and adjacent teams. When Sky Sport experiences streaming glitches and lies about kick off times, so they can fill an hour with brain dead "presenters" prior to the real kick off time, one wonders why more people don't use Kodi.

I guess there is a barrier to entry for Kodi, that is the time and the ability to set it up and run it.

Mr Mekong, surprised to note you consider things like Netflix and some sort of sports-entertainment as kind of basic expenses. Meaningless to me as is Sky or whatever. Just a thought.

But I didn’t say Basic expense though did I? I said monthly expenses, not basic expenses, since part of monthly expenses then can include what some people may deem as a luxury .

And €4.62 is hardly what I would call a luxury, probably around the same as a glass of wine in a bar or a cheap  1 Litre bottle at home
