What about calling them regular expenses. Regular monthly basic expenses, that is what they are, now I got it.

Mr Mekong, what I wanted to say is that I am not used to regard Netflix et al as parts of daily life. I do not participate in all the internet based junk that takes our time away. Whatsapp, Instagram, Facebook,Netflix, Sky Sports . I am grateful that I am too old for this crap. The only thing that I regularly watch is the Stickman Weekly. Nuff said.

So sorry, I didn’t realise that in the English an adjective had to be applied to modify a noun when it is standard.
if describing a girl you may say the FAT girl or the SLIM  girl but I would not say the AVERAGE girl because one would assume that the listener / reader was intelligent enough to realise that without an adjective saying fat or thin then it meant regular.
Similarly, say someone asked what you ate at a restaurant, you may say “I had a great Steak” or “I had a crap steak”  what you wouldn’t say was “I had an average Steak”.

Maybe the rules in German are slightly different, but after speaking  English for 60 years, the first couple gargled mind, I am pretty sure that I have got the hang of the grammar rules and don’t need some johnny foreigner telling me how to use my own language, or maybe I gave you too much credit and over assumed your intelligence.

In my corporate staff days, I used to fill in expenses forms and they had titles such as “Expenses Reimbursement Form”, “Expenses Claim Form” or “Expenses Report” not once did I see a form titles “Regular Expense Report” or similar

NOTE The Johnny Foreigner punt etc and other slight digs are meant in good humour, I should not have to add this disclaimer but I know how sometimes our Teutonic cousins take thinks to heart, must be all of that German efficiency we are told about

Sir, if you think speaking English for 60 years would qualify the superior expert to win this race I have to disappoint you: I am looking back at roughly 65 years. Still I do not fully get what you wish to clarify with your latest post. I just wanted to say that I am surprised to note that an entertainment outfit like Netflix becomes a part of a list that explains monthly living cost in Siam. You may again explain that I am wrong thinking this but I have enough now. Case closed.

Grammar rules vary greatly, even within  the same language, often by geographical location. Using you example above, I can tell you that here in San Francisco, *IF* you called the girl anything other than a person or their name, thus not forcing gender identity on them, you’d be treading on thin ice. As for grammar rules in Germany, who cares? They lost…twice… :)

Very well. OH, I am in possession of a memory that beats any elephant´s. Meaning right now that I wish to come back on your statement many many years ago that that the European built Airbus suffers from serious tecnical defects other that your obviously preferred Boeing planes. Please update on your current opinion in case you got one.

No pun intended, purely friendly inquiry I swear.

Air bus lower end/old planes suck, I worked on 320 and 319, absolute crap. Older Boeings had them beat by a Mile (none of that communist metric “kilometers” here!) Now a days, it may be a crap shoot. Boeing went from being a company driven by engineers with integrity and vision, To being a company, like all too many, being driven by bean counters and scum bag greedy pricks. While still a better product, the difference is slightly-greatly less than before.  The software issues on the Max models is up for debate, yes Boeing took some responsibility and “fell on the sword,” however, many of the tragic accidents could have been avoided had those pilots been better trained on the use of the software and what to do if the was a “glitch”.  Keep in mind, that software has been used for thousands of hours with no issues, only issues involved pilots who were not properly trained on the use of this software. At least that is the official NTSB report…Boeing revamped the software and it continues to fly with no issues…for now. Structurally, Boeing remains better than airbus.  As a company, Boeing is probably run worse than airbus, which accounts for most of it;s problems…had to pay the ass puppet CEO who helped screw the place up,  $45 million to leave…the rank and file guy screws up and just gets  fired…this is also part of the problem. Now the workers in Seattle are on strike and the place is even more screwed up. Sadly, if not careful, this once great icon may go the way of GM and ford…the stock is about 1/3 of what it was a few years back and frankly may go lower. Hope they get their act together but I fear greed will rule. Greed, driven by Ronald Regan and his bullshit policies, really fucked the USA up and I fear we may never unfuck ourselves…

To pontificate on my point further, Boeing built/builds their product “beyond minimums” Airbus builds them to minimum or just above minimum, leaving little margin for error, hence, the petty. Dings and damage often require full replacement of a panel or floor board etc where as Boeing is easier to repair. Years back, we had a flight attendant who was seriously injured when a “brand new” floor panel gave way on an A320.  Airbus built stuff with the idea that it would wear out and just be replaced. Boeing built stuff with the idea that it would be repaired and keep flying, which is the way US airlines think/do business. Sadly, everything is how cheap, “…how much profit can I make right now? Screw the company in a few years, I got mine…”  Years back, United got airbus at basically cost, no real profit, replacement parts, which were/are needed, came at a premium price as did some of the specialized tooling need to repair other things…

This has me thinking about what kind of aircraft I'll be on, for my forthcoming trip. I had a friend who would consider this aspect when booking his tickets.

As my primary consideration is, reduced cost, followed by, minimum stop count, I prolly don't have a choice and then I'm gonna do three separate trips, so I just hope I'm not unfortunate.

Don’t sweat it either way, Both Airbus and Boeing are ok and you are most likely going to get there… It isn’t so much the airplane manufacturers, whom all have taken to outsourcing and cutting corners on costs, as it is the maintenance of the airline you are flying on. Who does it, where and how well and how much over sight the country you are flying from/to requires. Thai airways is for example, not allowed to fly into the USA because their maintenance and compliance on certain things is not acceptable to the US FAA…same goes for a few others. Japan airlines and ANA had similar issues years back as did a few of the Chinese carriers…it all gets sorted one way or another.

As for your friend, he will STFU and book his ticket on whatever airline is the cheapest and will get him where he needs to go. Keep in mind, airlines can reschedule aircraft as needed, so it may say BA777 when booking, but it may switch to an AB at the last minute…

Yeah i've always wondered about his pickiness, once after a meal, in a Manila seafood place, I left a tip of about $3 on the table and as we were leaving, he swiped it.

Mind you, that's probably why he's a millionaire and I'm not.
