Big difference is that Christianity accepts virtually everything from Judaism and considers itself a continuation of Judaism. (Originally, the Romans considered Christianity as merely a sect of Judaism.) Islam, on the other hand, says that the Jews and Christians buggered up Jehovah's teachings so badly that 600 years after Christ Allah had to call upon the nearly illiterate camel driver Muhammad to straighten things out. Visit any Islamic bookshop and scan the "scholarly books" about how the Jews are now cursed and the Christians deliberately distorted Jesus's true message. And how do these "scholars" know that? How many Jews or Christians follow them nowadays??? But the Wahabis and other "hard core" Muslims still insist on following the blood thirsty parts of their own Holy Book today, right now ... at this very minute! You are right that the passages are there in the Bible. But thankfully they are ignored as archaic and seen as merely of historic interest. p.s. Catholics who lose their faith invariably become aethists. Protestants who stop buying what the preachers tell them generally become agnostics or free thinkers. Curious difference there ... And I am sorry, if you *are* a believer, then you cannot cherry pick what they want from a supposed sacred text. It is all or nothing. Hows about New Testament stuff then? Jesus strongly approves of the law and the prophets. He hasn't the slightest objection to the cruelties of the Old Testament. Matthew 5:17 Jesus will send his angels to gather up "all that offend" and they "shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth." Matthew 13:41-42, 50 Peter wrongly claims that Dt.18:18-19 refers to Jesus, saying that those who refuse to follow him (all nonchristians) must be killed. Acts 3:23 Homosexuals (those "without natural affection") and their supporters (those "that have pleasure in them") are "worthy of death." The odd strange quote from the old testament does not alter the fact that christ preached love and forgiveness whereas the 8th c phrophet spoke more of killing, vengence and bloody confrontation to unbelievers. Both Christians and Muslims have the common root of their religion in Judaism. The Jews believe both Christ and Mohammed were nothing more than prophets. The Jews still await the "Messiah". But the core religion is the same, and they all three prostrate themselves to the one true "God". Same God, just different interpretations on the religion and who is the Messiah or final word of God. Much the same as the anti-papist protestants. Same God, different interpretations of the theology behind it all. The Bible (King James and other versions), the Torah, the Koran. Yeah, the intellectual elite of the times. Must be true just because it was written so long ago huh? Maybe one day in the far future someone will stumble across some H.G. Wells or Isaac Asimov in some bombed out basement covered by the ashes the religions reduced us to in the next great holy war, and start a new religion.
