Old Hippie
Roggie, are you really trying to excuse McCarthy's actions? Clearly the man was a paranoid alcoholic with issues...and what about that homo fuck wit that played along, Roy Cone? or Crone?
rogueyam
Clearly the man was a paranoid alcoholic with issues... McCarthy was an alcoholic with issues but he was right to think that the Communists were infiltrating our Government and he was right to oppose it. Anti-anti-Communism is communism. Bangkoktraveler
McCarthy was a disgrace to his country and a disgrace to all of mankind. He will be remembered, not what a person should not be, but for the paranoid 'dictator' who walked with a heavy tread over large parts of the Constitution of the United States and he cloaked his own gross figure in the sovereignty it asserts and the powers it distributes. He accused the State Department to be infiltrated with commies, but when it was investigated, time after time after time after time after time, it was found out Joe was a 'bag of hot air'. Wrong...the State Dept. was infiltrated and his accusations were later found to be correct. HH
rogueyam
Wrong...the State Dept. was infiltrated and his accusations were later found to be correct. That is exactly right, which is why anti-anti-communists persist to this day in their "McCartyite" smears of McCarthy.
Faustian
HH and RY, aka, dumb and dumber... Ok HH, cite evidence for your claims. I'm interested...I'll bite. Remember, you can't use wikipedia...RY says it's disparaged...

Bangkoktraveler
rogueyam, you have claimed many of the members on this board of being communist, lefties, etc. but you never, ever have shown any proof. Do you have a copy of any check or that any one accepted a money transfer from a Communist country or from a Communist? .....same goes with the people that were part of the State Department that McCarthy accused. From what I have seen, there are a lot of accusations but no proof.

rogueyam
... it might "surprise" you to read Israeli historian Benny Morris's account of how Jewish militias raped, massacred, and ethnically cleansed Palestinians to create a much bigger Israel. robaus - Since you're at least familiar with Benny Morris' work it may interest you to read a recent piece he did for an American news magazine: From Dove to Hawk If the documents I studied 20 years ago painted Palestinians tragically, as the underdog, this record did the opposite. It has become clear to me that from its start the struggle against the Zionist enterprise wasn't merely a national conflict between two peoples over a piece of territory but also a religious crusade against an infidel usurper. As early as Dec. 2, 1947, four days after the passage of the partition resolution, the scholars of Al Azhar University proclaimed a "worldwide jihad in defense of Arab Palestine" and deÂÂclared that it was the duty of every Muslim to take part. This history has deepened and reinforced my pessimism, itself bred by the failÂÂure of Oslo. Those currently riding high in the regionâ??figures like Hamas's Ismail Haniyeh and Khaled Meshaal, Hizbullah's Hassan Nasrallah and Iran's Mahmoud Ahmadinejadâ??are true believers who are convinced it is Allah's command and every Muslim's duty to extirpate the "Zionist entity" from the sacred soil of the Middle East.
