CTO: On target ...

<< Faustian - rural education has been steadily improving. Many kids no longer drop out at year 6 which as the norm as little as 10 years ago. Staying onto Mor 6 or going into tech colleges at mor 4 is now far more common.

In fact too many kids in my opinion are going onto tertiary levels rather than undertaking skilled apprentiships.

This country - like many is now facing a problem of too many uni students (in their sexy outfits) and not enough trained workers. >>

But ...

The educational standards are appalling. In former years all students took nationwide exams to proceed to the next level. They had to score 70% or more on basic reading, writing, arithmetic and simple science just to get out of the 4th grade. Another test was required to advance to junior high ... then another for high school. No such tests anymore, so plenty of kids slide by without really learning much of anything when they finish the required 9 years.

The government universities are good, the ratchaphat universities somewhat less so, and the private universities a very mixed bag. Many of the private unies are nothing but money making near-diploma mills. Pay your money, sit through 4 years doing very little, and you get a piece of paper that says you have an education. When I came here as a PC vol, only 1% of the population got a higher education. Now it must be 15% and higher. Blame the Ministry of Education for allowing it to happen, especially since the post of Minister of Education is a political football. A couple of years ago, they changed so quickly that nothing ever got accomplished.

From what I hear a number of those to be punished switched parties before the ruling making or avoiding ruling being applicable.

Not sure how that helps if at all . . .

Also I hear PAD will clear airport now - but that I think was wishful thinking.

If I speak with someone who knows then I'd feel a lot more certain - still very early days sadly/

Over? Save face? No way!

PAD: entire Cabinet must leave office

People's Alliance for Democracy leader Somsak Kosaisuk on Tuesday vowed to continue rallying at Don Mueang and Suvarnabhumi airports and demanded the departure of the entire Cabinet.

Following the verdict on party disbandment, Somsak said the PAD would not allow the Cabinet to work in the caretaker capacity until the formation of the next government.

He said every minister must depart along with Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat.

Of 36 Cabinet members, 22 are not affected by the party disbandment and can carry on in the caretaker administration.

Police escort Constitution Court judges out of Supreme Administrative Court

Four plainclothes police escorted each of nine Constitution Court judges out of the Supreme Administrative Court after they delivered rulings in three party-dissolution cases.

The first three judges left the court while some angry protesters remained outside the court. Soldiers guarded them while they were leaving the court head office.

The six others left after all protesters had dispersed.

The behind the scene working (have no idea by who) is finally paying off - expect lots of flights to start (one already landed) - and then the groundswell will start. Cargo first for the few days then pax probably a token few on the King's Birthday then afterwards will start - but still not complete for a few days after that.

The end (of the mess at the airport) will take 10 days to normalized.

TH - I actually think the caretaker situation will last 6 months at least - maybe longer.

This time another constitution drawn to eliminate the problem of those pesky uneducated people voting TRT/PPP/New Name party.

That way next election no problem - no democracy.

Think it will end that fast? I see a never ending cycle...
