Poll: Did you marry a bar girl?

marriage has NO benefit to any man regardless of where she is from...

I agree with this statement from the standpoint that like a lot of the guys on the board (not all) I'm over 50. I'm at a point in my life where I think starting over again financially because a woman got half or more again would ruin me for life. Hence I won't commit!

Why marry a Thai lady? Me, as a US citizen, I get none of the benefits from Thailand as she gets from the USA; own property, green card (work permit), no money quota in the bank, no checking in every 90 days.

Thailand needs to level the playing field, IMO.

Property, you can own property just as long as a) its within the 49% foreign owned allowance of a condominium B) Wife owns the Land and can demostrate she has the income / funds to have purchased it in her own name (I kept out of that Thread)

Work Permit Having a Non-Imm O (based on Marriage) you can apply for a work permit just as long as proposed employer satisfies the financial requirements of employing a foreigner / employs required amount of Thai Staff

Money in Bank Where does it say this? Requirement is money in bank or a minimum monthly income. Laws do not saw the income has to be by the foreigner, my non-imm O was granted based on my wifes proven income.

90 Day Reporting Accepted, but only a requirement if in Kingdom for 90 days or longer at a time. You do not have to apply in person a nominee can report on your behalf as long as you have completed all the paperwork beforehand .

I find it ironic that the ones who complain the most about the so called injustices of the Thai immigration system are the ones who have minimal involvement with it, its nowhere near as bad as some people perceive and make out.

If you marry a Thai and have a kid, supposedly, you can get a visa to live in Thailand with no money in the bank. As far as having a green card, that only helps if you can speak English and a decent, marketable skill. My wife can do Thai massages but not here, without being licenced. And she can't get a licence until he can take some courses and pass an exam (and can't do that without knowing English). It may be 3-4 year before she can learn enough english to qualify for a decent job.

Nonsense. Being married to a Thai gal can get you a spousal visa to stay here. On top of that' date=' there is ... ummm ... and then there is ... uh. Lemme think a while.

LOL. I guess your wife doesn't read this board! :cover:

You've got that right! God help me if she ever finds any of the boards I post on. Fortunately, she only uses as PC to work on. How strange.

Back to the OP

How about 7 years married to an ex BG and divorced due to differences of requirements within the relationship, she saw me as a way out of Thailand and I saw her as a way to stay. We divorced and she went to the USA with her son and built her life I have no hard feelings, as others have said there are many reasons for a marriage / relationship to fail, she now has a good life and job and her son is doing well at college.

Been with my second Thai wife as a couple nearly 6 years now but we have known each other for over 9 years, I met her when she was studying overseas and we kept in contact and began to hang out within shared social groups when we were both back in Thailand, as the old saying goes "Shite Happens" and we eventually hooked up with each other.

IMHO where a person comes from is not too relevant as long as you both know where you want to go to, my mistake with my ex was not recognising the fact she was looking for a conduit away from Thailand and conversley she did not recognise I was looking for a way to stay, it was a lack of communication and understanding of each other that caused the marriage to fail but 7+ Years is not bad for a same nationality background let alone a Farang / BG marriage.

If the relationship I am currently in was to ever fail I would call it a day and just fly solo but as it is at the moment the wheels are staying on., property we currently live in Central BKK is all mine but the wife just bought a 4 year old house in Rangsit District on 2 Rai for 6 Millo from her Aunt who is going back to Canada with her own money, the 10 Rai she (we) own in Nakon

Nayok was a wedding present from her parents, and it will get developed in the near future.

Others have said it and I will reiterate the statement, Thailand is a Casino, only put in what you can afford to loose, my "On Paper" securities (Insecurities) in Thailand are quite high if I could ever cash then in but over the past 18 years less than USD 100 / Month of gambling.

RTG its fun

A future government can change all that with a few strokes of a pen. It would make no sense, but we are talking about a country where that isnt a condition of decision making. ;)

With some 82% saying they did not marry a BG and of those that did 14% saying marriage has lasted 5 years or more (the max time in the poll), I suspect that the OP is not getting the results he expected.

;)

TH

Yeah, I'm also quite surprised by the results. We are obviously a bunch of wise asses.

Probably mostly expats are replying. If you're an expat, you have plenty of chances to meet gals besides in the bars. I remember a conversation I had years ago with a cute, rather busty Thai lecturer in French. She said almost every one of the female achans would love to marry a Farang, but they didn't have the opportunity. (There were two Farangs in the English Dept, and just one in the French Dept. I was already married, and the Froggie guy was gay!)
