Flashermac
Like most politicians, he's a lawyer. Lawyers spend years learning how to SOUND good, even when their arguments aren't.
Bangkoktraveler
Its a tough call. I've always considered myself right of center for most of my life. Fiscally conservative' date=' socially moderate although I've changed my view on some things the last several years (gay marriage for example) and would now be deemed socially liberal or left of center. [/quote'] I consider any confiscation of one man's earnings and giving it to somebody else socialistic...and that is being polite. If you left "center-right" and moved to "center-left", you probably departed the majority of the country (from what I've read). That is, it has been repeated by different sources that most people in the U.S. are "center right". (That is where I was placed by the "political compass" that was posted here a few months ago.) The foregoing diatribe probably explains why I personally am adament in opposition to Obama's initiatives (in the main). I'm not against EVERY idea he has floated, but probably 90% of them. And in the 10% of those ideas that I share with him, I don't think he goes far enough. Oh well, get ready to mark your next ballot for Romney and Brown. 55555555555 (Holy Cow, Batman; TWO New Englanders? Maybe not.) HH Left of center with regards to my views on gay marriage primarily. I think that position is actually a libertarian view. Libertarians want the government out of the bedroom. I totally agree about it being wrong to take ones earnings and giving it to someone else. I have always been vehementally opposed to the state of social welfare in this country having seen the ramifications of its failed programs first hand. However, I also have the same animus for taking someone's earnings and giving to the defense contractors and via corporate welfare. Corporate welfare in all its forms is far more extensive than social welfare. I see no difference in providing food stamps and section 8 housing to those that don't need or deserve as I do for giving it to corporations that don't deserve or need it as well...and there are plenty of them. The department of defense has been one of the biggest black holes of money for some time. At least over a trillion dollars over a few decades have been totally accounted for according to the government's own estimation. My problem with republicans is that they don't get as upset over that but are more angry about the far less spent on food stamps. Its hypocracy of the highest order. I want both cut. I guess HH would do what the Romans did and hang Jesus on the cross once more. Early christians would today definetely be called ....... socialist. dave32
So many Christians... so few lions. Actually the early Christians revolting against the Romans were alright in my book. It's the modern day evangelicals that scare me.

dean
If you notice the name of Sara Phelps, she is the grand-daughter of Fred Phelps, the a**hole preacher from Topeka, Kansas. Fred is a long time anti gay preacher who was listed, along with Michael Savage and a few others, as banned from the U.K. Its nice to see a family member follw in their father's/grandfather's profession. However, all the Kansas religious nuts are not in San Francisco. Most are in Wichita, attending the trial of the man convicted of killing the abortion doctor, George Tiller.
