doxx
Hi gents, I'm going to Chinatown tomorrow to get myself a new wedding ring (I need the constant reminder). When buying gold jewelry, should you bargain the price? How much? To what percentage should I try get the price down? Thanks
BelgianBoy
Yes. How much is basically the price that you are willing to pay for the jewellery.... BB
The_Munchmaster
Did you lose it?
Old Hippie
Basically, you will NOT get the price of the gold down, that is a fixed/commodity price. You will have some room to play on the "work price" that is maybe around 500-560bht? not sure what they are charging nowadays. Don't expect too much off on a ring. I know of people who bought 2-3bht weight and got off 100Bht total...Thais might have better luck.
khunsanuk
Hi, Right. As OH mentioned price of the gold is fixed. Workmanship cost is negotiable, but that price is usually only about 100-200 per Baht of gold. So, on a wedding ring - which is likely to be less than 1 Baht even - I would imagine it would be pretty hard to haggle. Frankly, I don't think I'd even bother for a ring. Sanuk! WorldFun
I would not expect more than 5-10% reductions on bargaining as typically 'listed' prices reflect real life not like 5x as in tourist markets like patpong etc!
cavanami
"work price" is 400 B, usually. 100~200 B in Laos.

If you try to haggle, they might stop talking with you. I bought a considerable amount once and they gave me a small discount but it was their choice not from me haggling. Coss
I reckon you ask for a good price, once, no haggling. I don't know but I was told that MBK has reasonable gold shops. Coss
