What do you think?

Now that time has passed, RIP K.S.

Given how slow the contributions to the board are, it might be time to examine it's future.

I'm posting this as a conversation starter.

Salient points:

There are a few of us left.

J***** is the owner now.

The board costs about $400 / year for license and hosting.

Quiet conversations have indicated that there is a desire from some, to continue the board.

______________

I'm not posting this so as to be,  the "leader", I'm just trying to help if I can.

So my questions and ideas are as follows:

Are we numerous enough?  Do we remain a public facing board or should we think more in terms of a gentlemen's club?

Should we (the members) contribute a little financially ?  (I reckon we should)

Perhaps appoint subject specialists, to oversee a particular section and seek content therein.

______________

Other ideas

Get some advertising as the once was.

Allow more nudity as appropriate.. for a nightlife board.

Consider theme and look etc.

______________

Personally  I'm happy to serve in whatever role, going into the future. I am also ambivalent about no role, or no board.

Any Mods left? please make yourself known in the Mods section.

As far as I can see, there's J*****, (God Powers), me, (minor Mod powers) and a small league of esteemed gentlemen.

______________

Please have at it.

I was unaware KS had passed. RIP.

Only went to a couple of gatherings, up at that Aussie bar. I'm one of those in the shadows, resident in Thailand, now over 30 years, but largely a non-participant mainly (at the time) due to work schedules.

I'm aware most of the remaining folk who do keep the board alive with the occasional post are away participants; that is, not resident in Thailand. I have met a couple of you, though that was probably a lifetime ago.

It would be sad to see the demise of the board, as it seems to be one of the few places on the internet these days to be able to express a view and not get shot down, however life does go on, and we're not getting any younger.

I'll sit back for now and see how this thread goes, would be a pity if the board does go down, there's a lot of history in the old posts that would be lost to time.

Cheers, VK

I would be happy to contribute an annual subscription however if it was structured through contribution it may encourage more to post/comment.

If you want to go down the advertising path to generate income this will be determined by traffic which needs to be addressed. Perhaps promotion through links on other sites. Analytics should be able to supply the appropriate sites.

At present only members can access the nudity etc unless you provide a link cheekily elsewhere. Maybe open it up to general however there may be restrictions under Thai T&C I am not aware of.

Just my :twocents:

A bit of a facelift for the banner perhaps

The amount of traffic on this board it would be difficult to get sponsorship and with only 4-5 regular posters you are looking at close on $100 per annum each just to have a natter.

$10 per annum would be OK but not $10 per month when there are alternatives available for free. As much as I like you guys I am not going to shell out $10 per month to have an online place form3-4 old timers to chat . It would make more sense especially when free alternatives such as pro boards and Forumotion are available

Maybe it would make more sense to look for alternative hosting and direct traffic to new forum home until the lease on this one expires.

Just my 2 Satangs worth.

As much as I am no longer a frequent poster here I'd be happy to contribute where necessary. As life goes on, and we all age, I feel a deal of comfort knowing this link to the past still exists, and I can pop in from time to time. Knowing someone (hopefully) will turn up should I return to the LOS is some kind of comfort. Surely I am not the only one.

Why the censorship of J*****'s name? Am I missing something?

As he doesn't post much on the open board and the information being discussed was from a P.M. I thought he might appreciate a bit of anonymity on the public board, those who know his board name will glean that from the asterisked version. It may be unnecessary, but I'm a cautious fella.

A note:  Times have moved on and the restrictions around content of the board, may well be able to be eased, as the authorities now, will have no oversight of a board owner, who lives in Thailand and theretofore, is subject to the laws currently in place around the display of skin and the heritage of certain folk.

So there is that.

Just a few random thoughts.

I can't see advertising working. This site's traffic is essentially zero. Any advert would essentially be a donation from a business. If someone is prepared to donate an ad to fund the hosting, great, but otherwise I can't see any business choosing to advertise here.

Nudity? No. there's plenty elsewhere for those who want it.

I think the odds of attracting new users is pretty much zero. There is competition everywhere - other boards, many social media platforms etc - and this board is simply a bunch of folks keeping in touch and reliving the past. Short of an effort to attract back old members who have not frequented the board in a long time, I cannot see user numbers to this forum increasing. The net has moved in new directions and it's all social media and YouTube.

I agree with Mekong. I'd happily pay a small amount for a year but $10 / month, while still a negligible amount, nah.
