Obama

I watched his speech today about the housing plan. Have to say, I really like this guy and thinks he speaks a lot of sense in a very genuine way.

So refreshing to watch a US president who seems to care for his people. A great change from that asshole Bush who basically just wanted to show the world how macho he is and kill people.

I'm eagerly awaiting HH's reply.

I think even HH, if he is honest, would admit to liking this guy, in fact I bet HH has a "Go Obama" sticker on his windsreen.

Heck, I even stumbled on another forum called "Free Republicans" or something like that. Guess what, a chap called Rogueyam was on there extolling Obamas virtues. He claimed he was mislead into supporting Bush and had seen the light.

Good on him

The unscientific, general feeling I get from most people is that most want him to do well. I'd even say a lot of every day Republicans do also. Partially out of their own self interest (to get the economy back on track, jobs, etc.) and partially because even if you didn't vote for him, his doing well sends a message about America. Brings a wee bit of luster to the tarnished image of late.

His hero is Lincoln but he has a bit of JFK about him. Young, smart as a whip, idealistic, charisma, MILF wife.

I'd have voted for Ron Paul no question had he been on the ballot but Obama for me considering the alternative.

I have a strange feeling he's going to have more problems with other Dems than the Republicans. Right now it seems he's too popular for the Republicans in Congress to show too much vitriol or venom. They'll bide their time and wait for a major gaffe. Nothing personal, just politics. Dems would do the same if the situation were reversed.

I know one thing though we (Americans collectively) are scared sh*less about the state of things nowadays. I have friends who were laid off last summer and have not worked since.

I am a liberal. Maybe bleeding heart. And yet even I was sickened by what I saw in the stimulus bill. To me, Obama's ability to push that bill through, regardless of the numbers on his side, speaks to his ability to build consensus. I think that's the most important skill of all.

P.S. Fuck Pelosi.

I knew rogie would see the light. Now all he has to do is get a few pieces of Thai ass under his belt and he will be just like us.

Consensus? :rotl:

Yeah...100% of the Demoncrat legislators voted for the socialistic provisions of the "stimulous" bill.

I'd like to see Barry do well. He's a bright guy and (so far) has avoided any personal scandal. He's made a few very questionable appointments, but we shall see how they do.

I'm quite pessimistic about the amount of "good" the trillions of dollars that are being thrown out. It's kind of like undercapitalizing a biz, I'm afraid. The more things play out, the more I'm inclined to see things go their natural way when people make bad decisions...whether they are corporate or personal. The depression of the 30's spawned almost a generation that wouldn't borrow...if they didn't have the money, they wouldn't buy something. Can't say the same about their children/grandchildren, often referred to as the "me" and "now" generation...the result of which is more than evident.

The so-called "housing" proposal (and that's all it is at this time)is just that...and I'm certain that a lot of folks are going to be severely disappointed in details. They are still gonna lose their houses and the taxpayers/lenders will get the shaft if it plays out the way some believe. It's just false "hope" that Barry is creating, IMO. "Hope" and "change". "Change" is about all the taxpayer will have left in his/her pockets after the Demoncrats put a generation in hoc when it really is not necessary.

I see the current situation as disbelief. People had it so good (too good?) for too long. There's an immense hangover taking place. Obama probably has the hardest job of any president in history.

I like his cool pragmatic approach so far, but I agree with HH, all these trillions being thrown about seem a little directionless and it's all talk. I think a bit of economic darwinism needs to be exercised. The reality America is avoiding is that its time is over and a new set of global rules exist. It can still be number one, but a lot of painful changes are required. So far I've yet to see any evidence of people realising this.

Just a reminder HH...whilst the US taxpayer maybe in hoc for a generation (I just love your deluded blame game), who presided over this calamity? The only option is to borrow....
