Bangkoktraveler
Do Demoncrats believe in capitalism and individual resourcefulness? HH I think everybody believes in that to a certain degree. I owe a store so I am capitalistic whereas some who claim to be capitalistic are capitalistic in word only. HeartThais
Do Demoncrats believe in capitalism and individual resourcefulness? Are Republicans at all familiar with the concept of externalities? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Externality
itsmedave
Hugh_Hoy Said:Do Demoncrats believe in capitalism and individual resourcefulness? So, this is the problem with Republicans. They still refuse to see issues with shades of grey. It's all black and white. Either you are a full blown capitalist or you're a pinko. This is extremism in as true a sense as any Muslim terrorist who makes news for blowing up a building. You can be a Muslim and not be a terrorist, and you CAN believe in capitalism without allowing only the strongest to survive. Because when the weaker companies go down...they take thousands/millions of innocent American workers with them. Extremism is bad...doesn't matter what the underlying concept is. Hugh_Hoy
Extremism is bad...doesn't matter what the underlying concept is. That may be true in some cases. However, I think it is "extreme" to confiscate my earnings to pay for someone else's poor decisions...as I said, whether those were corporate or personal decisions. People hopefully learn by their mistakes and the mistakes of others. Unfortunately, socialism breeds those who would learn that it is okay to make mistakes or live carelessly because they expect that the Government will take resources from others who have worked and planned for their own futures. Those folks aren't "weak". They are often merely parasites. As has been said, "Socialism is a great idea...until you run out of other people's money". Old Hippie
Agree. Problem is, they are confiscating your earnings, and have been since forever. As for paying for people's bad decisions, and those who don't contribute, you are doing that, and have been forever, one way or another. The best you can hope for is efficient use of YOUR money...good luck with that. Examples...people were against government funded abortions...so they stopped that, now we have more people on welfare, and more people in prision, wouldn't it have been better to pay the $300 up front? Against national health care? o.k. more people use emergency rooms, and then dodge the bills, and who pays? we do. So what is the answer? What is supposed to happen to poor working people who get sucked into the system? My suggest is we reward those who do work, and give more rewards to those looking to improve, we either pay now, or we pay later. A new time has arrived, and the old hard line ways aren't going to cut it. If we want to "compete" then we are going to have to fall in line with other developed countries, and do as they do, like it or not, call it what you want, liberalism, socialism, communism etc... I don't agree. We are not competing against other developed countries. We are competing with 2nd and 3rd world countries who do not have the same environmental standards, labor laws, employee compensation/bennies, taxes, etc. Already, the US Gov is sucking up about 40% of the GDP, approximately the same as the governments of Britian and Germany. We can compete with our British and Euro friends, but not with the likes of India and China due to the factors noted above. BTW, as part of Obama's stimulous program, it looks like he's gonna fulfill one of his campaign promises: 95% of the people will get their taxes cut. I read today that it will equal about $65/family per month. Wow ! I'm gonna have to think long and hard about what I'm gonna do with this windfall. (Not.) Of course, that won't come close to making up what you and I will have to pay with the California tax increases our commie Demoncrats in Sacramento just laid on us. Assholes. Old Hippie
"...the California tax increases our commie Demoncrats in Sacramento just laid on us. Assholes..." I guess that commie Arnold can't control Nancy and Barbara and Diane...what a pussy. Now when are you going to get over this blaming one party over the other? and when will you realize they are all in this together? One is tax and spend the other is spend and tax, and it doesn't matter who or what party, we are the ones who pay. Until we get over our own divisiveness by party and realize we have 1 common enemy in government we are screwed as a people. Oddly, the people we compete with seem to have (in some ways anyway) a better reign over their leaders and the corporate CEOs...
Hugh_Hoy
OH...the Demoncrats have controlled the CA legislature for decades. This mess didn't happen over night. Arnie has always been a left-of-center registered republican. So, even though he campaigned on no new taxes, I never believed him. Only 3 GOPers voted for the tax increases, compared to about 40 Demoncrats. So I think it is fair to say that the Demoncrats have a lot more to do with that shit and kind of puts the blame squarely on their shoulders. Same, same, the federal "stimulous". OMG! Folks sell their vote for a cup of java every three days at Starbuck's. The folks in Issan must be howling with laughter. HH
..
HH still believes that the magic tax fairy will come from the sky and pay for all those services he uses... Cheers, SD
