Flashermac
<< His hero is Lincoln but he has a bit of JFK about him. >> Wonder if he's aware of the claims that Lincoln was executor of his father-in-law's will and as such arranged the sale of the Todd family's slaves. Steve
The current situation is so huge and unprecedented in modern times in the U.S. that I really think that NO ONE really knows how to resolve this. I have not heard economists talk with one voice on what to do. What is the Republican solution? Do they have one? I'm not saying the Democrat solution is going to work either. Point is that NO ONE really knows. We're in unchartered territory. Each candidate had a plan and a vision that did not include the economic crisis. Obama is winging it just as McCain would have based on their ideology.
kamui
Here is an interesting graph about the spread of wealth since Nixon. It shows how good Bush/GOP was to sell their ideology to the masses even though the lower and middle class lost wealth during his government. Generally *all* Americans did better when the democrats ruled. Source: FiveThirtyEight It shows that the GOP never did really well on the economic side. Actually, they can be happy that they lost the election, otherwise the party would be now imploding under the pressure of the current crisis and as the result of their own incompetence. Old Hippie
I'm eagerly awaiting HH's reply. I think even HH' date=' if he is honest, would admit to liking this guy, in fact I bet HH has a "Go Obama" sticker on his windsreen. Heck, I even stumbled on another forum called "Free Republicans" or something like that. Guess what, a chap called Rogueyam was on there extolling Obamas virtues. He claimed he was mislead into supporting Bush and had seen the light. Good on him  [/quote'] Some how I doubt that. Link please... I think when the USA government started using Social Security and Medicare as part of a ponzi scheme is when the problems really began. Right now, there is so much that is all screwed up I think all they can do is put up smoke screens so people will not see how bad things really are. As you have said several times CT, there appears to be about 1 trillion dollars unaccounted for in the Iraq war, you would think somebody would look into that but they will not. I think even HH' date=' if he is honest, would admit to liking this guy, in fact I bet HH has a "Go Obama" sticker on his windsreen.[/quote'] Actually, that sticker is plastered on my toilet. Other than that, I don't personally dislike the guy. He's what you call charismatic. I just don't like his view of what should be done with respect to certain things. And I don't want to live in a socialist country. (Yeah, yeah, yeah. I've heard all the crap before about already living in one, blah, blah, blah. To an extent, I agree, but we do need to turn the pages back about 60 years.) HH
