One other important thing to remember is culture. New Zealanders are famous for leaving their country in droves to find greener pastures in other lands. Most unfortunately lack the skill set required for legitimate work and take up ocupations not wanted by indigenous folk (eg. construction, prostition, mens wear shop attendants etc). Others specialise in less reputable occupations such as petty theft, drug dealing, fencing of stolen goods. Many become confidence trickers knocking door to door, I am sure we have all heard the story of the charming NZer who befriends pensioners over cup of tea and biscuits only to make off with their lifesavings.

In many ways they are the south pacific equivalent of Nigerians.

What a load of total horse shit. New Zealand frequently comes out best in the world in the corruption index i.e. the country has the lowest corruption on the planet. New Zealanders have a reputation for hard work offshore.

Stop speaking out of your ass.

Now c'mon Stick, use the proper Kiwi, Aussie, Pom word Arse, not that Yank euphemism ass. From where I come from an ass is like a donkey, and you can hardly speak through that can you? :doah:

To be honest I've been critical about a lot of the things Stick has come out with in the past, but I must say on this one I agree with him 100%. Jack Schist is talking a load of horse shit! I generally like nearly all the Kiwis I've met.

My grandmother once wrote me a letter disowning me because I was dating a girl who was not only latino (*gasp* - you probably could've sat in the living room with her disparaging those blokes who date the 'poor and uneducated'), but even worse in her eyes -- Catholic.

So, yes you're correct -- many things I was brought up with I've come to distance myself from over time. Doubtless you've embraced your high-falutin morals with nary a second thought, as you seem to enjoy spewing them like a broken sewer pipe. And icing on the cake -- your snide sense of superiority that makes you so warm and charming.

Good for you dude. The all respected Wendella. I'll be in LOS in April, I look forward to the pleasure of making your acquaintance sir. I can hardly contain my eager anticipation to be in the presence of such a formidable man with the keen insight of a hawk... able to so easily peer into the minds around him and sum them up (naturally, as substandard to his own).

I wouldn't want my daughter turning tricks. But if I was given the proposition of having her marry a Wendella or work in a bar, my reply would be: make sure you get a few lady drinks out of your Joes.

:)

Have a nice, self-aggrandizing, day.

Sadly I won't be in Thailand in April. Guess you'll have to hit someone else.

Sometimes hard to figure out what you're actually saying with the super thick layers of hyperbole going on, but you seem to have an idea I said something that could be categorized as 'puritan'. So what did I say exactly?

"snide sense of superiority" -- is that what you feel? This seems to be saying a lot more about what's going on inside your head than in mine.

Anyway, I go out, I pick them up just like most here. I also (like many here, I'm sure) realize that it's not something I'm gonna openly discuss at a party in mixed company, I still get that it's looked down upon by mainstream society, and I can still understand why. You pretty fiercely disagree. So what's with all the ferocity, eh? What's that all about? Why does this issue make you so angry? I mean if you were at peace with it, you'd make your points coolly, reasonably. There'd be no threat sparking this fight response. That's not what I see here.

Well sorry about the Grandma comment, didn't realize I'd acccidentally struck a sore point with that one. I can imagine that wouldn't have felt very good. In my family, we totally overwhelmed our German grandma -- black, yellow, Buddhist, Jewish, you name it -- she had no choice but to jettison her bigotry and go with the flow.

But my point was meant to be, not you or anyone thinks prostitution is a good healthy way of life for anyone they care about. (and if its good enough for THEIR DAUGHTERS but not good enough for YOURS, then which one of us here has the superior attitude?) And also I do think we all realize that going with hookers tends to get seen as a negative and not a positive in mainstream society. It's something I'd bet most of us here try not to get found out about, at least in our real lives. And if my daughter became one, socially I'd be feeling some humiliation if it was known by people around me.

Me, I am conflicted -- no doubt about it. I partake, yet I recognize that its not any kind of good deed I do, and I 'compartmentalize' my life so it doesn't get found out (workplace, famliy).

Actually it'd be really interesting to do a survey of members here and see what % compartmentalize their activities, what % are totally public and even let their families and bosses know.

THat last comment, I'm just scratching my head at that one. So... by "wendella" you mean a guy who says he realizes prostitution falls into the category of 'not exactly a good thing', and that is something you find so reprehensible that you'd prefer your daughter to become a hooker rather than marry someone who... doesn't think banging whores is a normal healthy activity. So yoru litmus test for your daughter's hand in marriage is that the guy bangs whores and doesn't care who thinks what about it, which I presume would include your daughter. OK. That makes sense.

I never said they weren't likeable. in fact two of my friends were k1w1s. First one ended up a rape charge and died of a drug overdose. Second was a used white good salesman who used to fleece old ladys out of there fridges and washing machines. Both were really nice blokes and very charming. Most can be very loyal friends but rarely miss an oportunity to better themselves at other peoples expense. One could decribe them as survivors, just like Nigerians.
